I might be wrong here, as it's been 10 years I reckon since BHD, but I'm pretty sure in that multiplayer game, you simply joined a server which may have had its own home made maps and played without the need to already have their map loaded on your PC.

Why do I mention this? Well, I reckon if a game is small in size at the user end, and there's less need to download & store this that and the other, I think it would be more appealing. I understand the maps need to get onto each users' PC some way, so if my memory is correct regarding BHD, then one must have downloaded each map while the game loaded between rounds. Or am I miles off here?
the game file is actually quite big compared to other games

and second you have the core maps already downloaded when you download the game

when you join a server you are joining a server not downloading a map if you didnt have that map you wouldn't be able to play

I hope that explains everything

Yeah, kinda.

Another thing, but forgive me as I had a lengthy absence from this game, would the fall in numbers playing have any relation to the removal of features in the quest for realism?

I mean, for instance, it's more difficult now to respawn due to rally points having limited time. Yes you want teamwork, but if a player gets dead dead and there's only Main to spawn at, he/she could be faced with a stroll across the entire map to rejoin his squad.

For me it was certainly more fun back when I started playing this game, and I think a good balance of fun and realism is the key to the longevity of the game.

P.S Gamers love stats and kill counters. ;)

Here's a thread to keep alive: The BF2 [MPN] Clan Thread - Page 767

Join and post updates! It's a popular mil forum, so new military orientated people could get a chance to join this game.

I also advice posting on your own language forums, pages, just to attract more people from all over the world.

The game is still on sale and 19.99 on Steam.
