I usually use the mortars as a SL and utilize attack markers to "bracket" the target. Using the 50m, I can usually move my markers along the same line and get an exact distance give or take 5m by eyeballing it. I then move the marker to the left and right of the target to get a more accurate direction on the compass. I give the other mortar user the targeting information and the firing begins. Only problem with this is that you need accurate reports of enemy concentrations via VOIP because as a SL you aren't in the field directly spotting for squadmates (this also allows for fewer people in a mortar squad). It is more useful on insurgency maps when you have cache information available.

Height is irrelevant unless you are hitting the castle on Archer, my rule of thumb is to set height to about 100m for that or simply add like 20m of range to the distance shown.

Way to be that guy Anderson. Didn't bother to read through it all as I was assuming & was correct that reading everything would be a waste of time.

.....OK, would just releasing printable topographical map for each map not solve all the problems, and allow mortar teams to actually utilise the full functions intended in the mod?

I think all of the ingame maps should be converted to topograhical personally. Would make a lot more sense for mortars among other things.
