You dont need special forces because the files that we've used from it are included in PR.

Re: Project Reality on Steam? (Greenlight)
Doesn't matter the slightest, it still offers vanilla BF2, even if it came with Space & Lasers Brigade expansion. Also as I stated you can tell Steam where you want to install your games so the BF2 doesn't even need to be bought from Steam to be able to play the mod. As far as I see, you can still buy plenty of retails with no SF.Banok wrote:I dont think you did your research my friend.
steam doesn't even sell "vanilla". it only sells "complete collection" from what I can see, which contains special forces.

Re: Project Reality on Steam? (Greenlight)
Im pretty sure if they hosted the mod it would only be for people with proper steam versions of BF2.
if you bought a vanilla cd then did the whole "add non steam game to steam", thats not a proper steam version of the game.
its a farce, it just means adding a shortcut to the game exe to steam, and records how long you run that exe. you can even add pirated versions of steam games this way, it wont complain, like I said they are not proper steam installs.
tdlr: if PR was ever added to greenlight it would only be for people who purchased bf2 complete collection on steam.

you guys seem misinformed and forgot that the latest bf2 patch included all the expansions for free , making the complete edition obselete and waste of money.
and pr should not have to include any files from expansions, they are included in the latest 2 gig patch for bf2 ...

There is only one expansion for BF2 which is Special Forces, it was not included in the 1.5 patch. The patch includes 2 booster packs, not the expansion. You are the misinformed here.Pesticide wrote:you guys seem misinformed and forgot that the latest bf2 patch included all the expansions for free , making the complete edition obselete and waste of money.

This is actually true, it would only be available for those with BF2 activated in Steam. Still, you could use any folder to install it, I am not talking of adding non-steam game here, you can install steam games to any folder you wish in the newest version of steam. (EDIT: Nvm, the newest patch allows you to install to other drives but it still creates Steam folder for it.) Still, would be cool to see PR in steam.Banok wrote:Im pretty sure if they hosted the mod it would only be for people with proper steam versions of BF2.

Re: Project Reality on Steam? (Greenlight)
Sorry for reviving the topic, but...
Ehh, so apparently we haven't come to a conclusion, and I see this as a pretty important issue. Personally, I don't see why not. It would surely bring a lot of new players to PR. There are already free games, free mods (albeit I'm not sure if just Source ones)...
Take a look at this page:
Steam Workshop :: Greenlight
They even say they accept Flash and XNA games. The only problem appears to be the $100 entry fee. Donations maybe?
I mean, once we have a good tool for showing of PR such as Steam, one of the best platforms I can think of, it wouldn't be hard to get some attention. I mean, we've got plenty of awesome videos and screenshots. Put in a poetic description saying stuff like like "unparalleled teamwork" "14 unique factions" (now that's something really uncommon out there) "5 different game modes" "over 30 huge and detailed maps, both fictional and based on real-world locations". Pretty words + big numbers = loads of new players. Couldn't hurt.

Re: Project Reality on Steam? (Greenlight)
I don't know why people say it wouldn't work... Tons of games have mods on Steam (Red Orchestra, for exemple). It would just install itself like anything else on Steam, and it would attract other players too !
For the regular update thing, well... The mods of Red Orchestra aren't updated really regularly, these days, and Valve still keeps them

Seems like a very good idea to me, and I would, as I'm sure many others would, donate money for the $100 entry fee.

I'd donate money, and I don't even have BF2 on Steam...

Re: Project Reality on Steam? (Greenlight)
You don't have to, since Steam games' location can be modified by the user.Darman1138 wrote:[...] and I don't even have BF2 on Steam...
I have BF2 in Origin, and I'll probably have PR through Steam. And to top it all, a PR Steam group led by DEVs or even by clans could be really useful in order to organize more events.
The (future) PR's Hub could easily promote it as well.

I feel like it wont even matter because i think PR 1.0 will have its own launcher.
What might be able to be done though is link the launcher to steam.
I also have some friends that when they play PR steam says they are. im not sure if they have BF2 on steam or not though.

Re: Project Reality on Steam? (Greenlight)
You can do that in the settings, but what we want is a Greenlight page for PR on Steam so everyone can see it and hopefully more people will stumble across it. If it gets Greenlit and we all download it from Steam, it'll jump way up to the Popular Downloads list where hundreds of thousands of gamers can then see it.Conman51 wrote:What might be able to be done though is link the launcher to steam.
I know that Valve also posts links to related game content in the Library page for your games that you have. If they posted an article about PR in the Battlefield 2 window that would also help exposure.

And, slightly off topic but, is there a way to make Punkbuster allow the Steam in-game plugin ? Would be awesome.

Yep, such as Hi-Rez Studio with Tribes:Ascend.Conman51 wrote:What might be able to be done though is link the launcher to steam.
They simply put pr.exe into Steam as a non-Steam game. I did it as well whereas I dont have BF2 in Steam. The only two purposes of doing this are : if you want no shortcut on your desktop, you get all your games into the Steam library, AND the other one is that you just promote PRConman51 wrote:I also have some friends that when they play PR steam says they are. im not sure if they have BF2 on steam or not though.
But the profile of people who bought BF2 through Steam says they're playing BF2 when they play PR.

Re: Project Reality on Steam? (Greenlight)
EA will never license their engine to a mod in this way. Even thought its theoretically possible, thay still use the engine in Battlefield Play for Free and Battlefield Heroes. The engine is not dead enough, and they would probably require a lot of money if it was even remotely possible.Steam Workshop :: Greenlight Frequenty Asked Questions
My game is a mod ? can I still submit it to Steam Greenlight?
Yes, you can submit your mod to Steam Greenlight, but in order to be launched on Steam you will need to have a full engine license in place for your game. If you are a Source engine mod, we can work with you on this piece, but for other engines you will need to work with them directly.
Therefore: PR: BF2 will probably not be greenlit.

Re: Project Reality on Steam? (Greenlight)
Aw... I get how complicated it can be now.
But do they have to get EA's confirmation before they put it on Greenlight ? Or can they just try it (trying to spend 100$... yup), and see how things are going without having any contact with EA yet ?
Then if it's getting better than expected (huge success etc.), EA's noise will definitely see they can get a lot of money there, and then I suppose they'll try to do their best in order to get PR in Steam. And in that case I don't see why they would ask for more money then, as the BF2's promotion and sells will do the job.

Wait... If Refractor 2 is owned by DICE and not EA, it might be possible. DICE aren't greedy ******** like EA
