gx, what is your gf's PC used for? What CPU are you using?

Only a few upgrades from the 8XX series to the 9XX series AM3/AM3+ mobo chipset specs,

So anything from the 870 to the 990FX

$110 should get you plenty of features, but tell us a bit about usage and we can give a decent answer.

The 970 chipset might be your sweet spot if you have a single discrete GPU and not doing SLI/Crossfire

Motherboards with AMD Chipsets

Her PC is for work, she does photography, so she will be running photoshop and I just want everything to run real smooth for her.

CPU is phenom II x4 965, that she picked up for $85, quite a bit less than I did 2 years ago... Lucky girl.

GPU will be my 5800, which is rather large.

As of right now shes has

CPU
250GB SSD
2 TB 7200 rpm seagate HD

and will have a 5800 card when its time.

look for this:
Socket AM3+
Northbridges:
AMD 870 chipset OR HIGHER
Southbridges:
SB850 or SB920 or S950

DO not get the SB810 or lower Southbridge, she will not get full use of the SSD read/write speed.

If not overclocking, you should be able to pick up a board for less than $100.

NB970 and SB920 is the optimal choice IMHO,
NB970 and SB950 for a few more bells and whistles you're probably not going to use ,

Thanks, think I will end up going with the ASUS M5A97, as I have a bit more experience with ASUS and trust it.

Bumping this thread instead of making a new one:

Looking for a mobo for my new build.
CPU will be i7 3930,the hexacore chip, or better if something else comes out.
will be using a ssd for my OS and most programs, and RAID 5 on 4 HDDs
going with the hexacore because I do some video encoding

I am leaning toward this one, and it just went on sale.

I'd get that or something like the ASUS Maximus.
