gx, what is your gf's PC used for? What CPU are you using?
Only a few upgrades from the 8XX series to the 9XX series AM3/AM3+ mobo chipset specs,

$110 should get you plenty of features, but tell us a bit about usage and we can give a decent answer.
The 970 chipset might be your sweet spot if you have a single discrete GPU and not doing SLI/Crossfire
