I'd like to add here that I've been assisting in troubleshooting OP's problem via Steam, as I had some issues getting PR to work at first as well. Hopefully what I add here can help others diagnose what the problem is:

- There is no error being logged. He currently does not have a prError.log in the mod directory which is indicating to me that it has not had any error to log.
- We have tried setting compatibility mode (WinXP SP3) for pr.exe, as well as bf2.exe . Neither has worked and we have set this back to normal
- Both pr.exe and bf2.exe are run as administrator
- We have uninstalled the torrent version, and tried the Desura version. (again, this is set to run as administrator)
- Bf2 and PR are installed in the local steam library (this was my issue with starting PR - i had it installed in a separate steam library and this made it unable to load bf2)

Hey silber, thought you had this fixed,

What OS do you use? WinXP, Vista, 7 , 8?
is it 32 bit or 64 bit?

Open registry editor,
Find:
on 32 bit:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2]

on 64 bit:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Electronic Arts\EA Games\Battlefield 2]

Find that, select it once with mouse, then top menu, File->Export , select "selected range" , name it, select to save as text *.txt format.

Open the text file,

Go to the ERGC subfolder, and delete it, it is your BF2 license key.

copy the rest, and paste it in this thread or send it to me in a private message.

-----------------

I believe that the Desura downloader has made a registry entry pointing to an incorrect location of your BF2.exe , making it impossible for PR.exe to find BF2.exe when you start PR.exe .

This is just a best guess,
