As of now I agree there is not much incentive to survive which is actually sad, whereas there should be. A system of additional ticket losses or other incentives hopefully can be figured out sometime to encourage players to try to survive a downed vehicle or crash.

I don't know if it's possible, but perhaps limiting the crewmen kit to just being able to request it off an actual vehicle? This may prevent abuse of the additional patches.
Crewmen are presently too survivable because apparently while desperately escaping and armoured vehicle they have time to get specialised weapons and equipment. In reality, crewmen carry significantly less equipment on their person than infantry soldiers. If you want it to be realistic, there should be very high odds that if you try to escape from a vehicle wreck, you can't because of grievous injuries sustained from spalling or a compartment fire. There's also a chance that you can't unlock the combat locks in your dazed state or that slag has damaged the operation of them.
Something that people who operate armoured vehicles think about a LOT is what they'll be doing if their vehicle is disabled. Some friends of mine used to strap AK74 bayonets to the jesus bars of their LAVs because in case of something happening that was enough to disable their vehicle, they wouldn't have enough time to get their rifle out with them as well.
The most likely outcome of an armoured vehicle crew spilling out of a very heavily damaged vehicle is that they'll have only pistols. In the case of a mission killed vehicle that's not severely damaged or in a lot of immediate danger, they will take off every bit of equipment they can and destroy any sensitive stuff inside. You'll see them getting out with medium machineguns as well as rifles, ammunition, rations and so on. The process could take anywhere up to half an hour.
You don't get out of an armoured vehicle that's been penetrated with the risk of ammunition cooking off, more rounds on your vehicle and being cooked alive after stopping to collect tonnes of equipment out of the back. Getting equipment and getting it in a state that's ready to be carried is a lengthy process usually.
I know I'm not listed as a military advisor, and I know my thread about the crewman request system being completely broken was probably ignored for a good reason, but this thread should be locked. If you aren't willing to take my word for it, check with your MAs who operate out of armoured vehicles and tell them what they'd get out of an A Vehicle with if it was on fire and disabled and in the sights of whatever had put it on fire and disabled it. Ask them specifically if they'd have the time to grab a new rifle, a few grenades, some smoke grenades, binocs, fresh magazines and maybe some specialised equipment like an LAT or a dozen epipens and a section first aid kit. Ask them how many bandages they'd have on them if they bailed out of their vehicle in a hurry.
