It's hard coded to just remove them all? I'm surprised that name tags haven't been removed since .01 let alone 1.0. Remove mini-map, kill screens, kill messages... leave nametags? I don't get the thought process there. To all those saying 100 is too much.... ugh you make me sick.

You should be able to hear a faint coughing on the person who's bleeding. Secondly you can hold your first aid bag out click will show you who's hurt. Thirdly you can hold out the medic bag and allow whoever needs healed to walk to you. Last and not least, they use local mumble and you should be able to tell who is where even if they are that close. 4 options and you choose the excuse.

Yep I'm all for removing all name tags. Having tags on some players but not others causes a lot of confusion. When they are removed at first people will accidentally teamkill a lot, but after a while players will learn their uniforms and double check. It is also way more realistic to have no tags.

I'd like to get the DEV's reaction to this problem. I'd say if we all don't get tags, then none of us should have them.

As mentioned by Cossack before, its hard coded into the engine source code which we don't have access to, per EA's terms of use policy. We can't change anything regarding player is tags showing up. Trust me, many people have tried. If you want 100players its gonna have to be like this. Sorry guys.

So we can't remove nor add nametags, is that correct?

I vote for no tags whatsoever.
EDIT: Dam it. I guess we are stuck with this problem.

Then I say back to 64 players. It just looks like a mistake if its left how it is.

Its not. And i hate this mentality. It works for Normandy and Falkands, but thats about it.
Giving name tags to squad members and SLs would be an acceptable compromise.

We can always have 64 player servers running 64 player layer maps, and then 100 player servers running 100 player layer maps can't we?
Personally no tags all the way but since it's hardcoded, I say screw it, I just want 100p! I'll live with some with tags and some without

You can't add/remove variables to show nametags, but you don't need to use them.
So we can disable it(although technically it's not disabling, but making it shown up from 0m after a long time, same way as enemy nametags are shown atm)

This would be a good change. At least that way it would be consistent so it isn't so confusing. Easier to get used to no one having name tags then it is to get used to only some people having name tags.
Eventually the friendly fire would even go down because people would learn to check before shooting.

I dont suppose it would be possible to use mumble to do something about this, would it? I have no idea how it works but it does have positional audio which means the program has a good idea of where the player is on the map. Is there a way we could add a nametag to the player's mumble position?

Yeah. I think that removing name tags altogether is the way to go. No one uses nametags to identify friend or foe IRL anyway. It'll clean up the confusion and people will learn to deal with it over time.

You can deactivate nametags for all. It is possible and easy to do... you can even do it only for whichever map or layer of map you might want to do it on.
Survival Games minimod has no nametags for example. I don't think it would be possible however to only remove nametags of some of the players, as in only for grunts.

That would make for a much more consistent experience IMO.

Removing all nametags would be a open door for all griefers and asshating people that are around, you have no chance to identify anyone. Is that what you want? Yeah it would be more consistend but i dont believe its useful. IF a few nametags are not shown its not a real problem but its annoying enough sometimes. I dont know why are there so many people want "all name tags or none". I think it will be a mess most of time for everyone and not really fun to play. If everyone tries to play real professional and tight organized its different but you MUST handle different kinds of players and not all are expierend with the game or play it good, and these will get lost. And you will need to play with your map open all the time to stay together cause otherwise you cant say if you are behind your squadleader or the squadleader of another squad and all this little organisationthings will get harder and annoying. Its not good for gameplay and its not realistic so i dont get that point. If somebody want that nice consistent look there should be an option to disable the nametags if they want.

ghostfool84 brings up a good point. I mean we'll still have the scoreboard and the negative team points as a way of telling of sorts. But there are ways to grief that don't result in negative team points.
People shouldn't be relying on nametags to engage targets anyway. This is a "players are hardcoded" kind of thing. Players just need to exercise more trigger discipline.
I'm tired of getting shot by so called friendlies on the infantry layer of Black Gold because people can't seem to get it in their heads that the Russians are in tan uniforms with green packs and the PLA have brown camouflaged uniforms. Look at gun models and helmets too. Check your map often. You'll be a better player because of it.

Yeah griefers... that's actually a good point. It would take forever to figure out who's messing around and screwing stuff up :s
