With mouse and keyboard I have all my sensitivity options up to 10, which is the maximum so it doesn't take forever to turn. And for bindings it's just WASD for throttle +/- and rudder left/right, and mouse for pitch/roll.

I don't advise to use only keyboard, you can never be as accurate as with a mouse, like for gun runs for example.

I'll reset my controls tomorrow maybe, and try flying using mouse and keyboard. I just thought being able to throttle accurately, and continually pitch back would be way more advantageous.

In BF3 I have SPACEBAR set to pitch back, but I find in BF2 it can't handle as many key inputs at the same time.

I have the exact same joysitch as you and have been flying jets in PR for atleast 4 years now, I would recommend using a combo of joystick and keyboard. I use the joystick for all my handling and weapons, but I don't try to port over the controls for the map, or mumble.

This way your right hand has access to the most important keys, especially the defensive keys of looking back, looking around and flares. For cycling weapons I have my left hand near the keyboard to press the 1-5 keys, afterburner(I can do it on joystick or keyboard), look at map, or talk/type. You will need your keyboard so in my opinion just use the joystick for the basic flying and don't clutter it with every possible key combo.

To your questions:
1) Planes handle their best at full throttle, an F16 at 1000 will be much more sluggish than at max speed. Going at reduced speed still does have its uses, but its not like RL.

2) Each plane on landing is slightly different, best way is to get a feel for each one. I land the F-16 and MIG-29 at 40-45 percent throttle, A-10 and SU-25 at 50 percent, Eurofighter at like 30-35, and the J-10, SU-30, and Tornado all need special attention, atleast for me.

4) The best way to not die in air combat is constantly be looking to your left, right, above and behind. If you see a spec trying to get on you start using your flares once a second right away. From there you have 2 main choices, try to get to 5000 where you and your opponnent will lose control(on some maps this will also mean death by timer), or try to manouver and get him infront of you, which if the pilot is decent will result in you dieing to guns. The above is all for similar jets fighting each other.

About the missiles. I usually fly around with the medium range missiles out (AIM-120), when I see a plane pop into my view I switch to gun mode, try to get as close as I feel I can without getting seen, switch to shortrange AAs and quickly shoot 2-4 missiles, depending on how tricky my opponent has been. Thats my style and unless you spot me before I shoot (or anyone), once the enemy has lock there is a good chance you are dead unless already flaring.

When it comes to mouse vs joystick I find I am just as accurate with my joystick when strafing so I prefer it, but I also have quite a lot of practice with it.

Flying a jet in PR is just a thing you're gonna learn by trial and error. My suggestion is, go to test airfield (atleast cia is running test airfield, feel free to use our server) and learn how to fly, land and use the weapons.

Once you've learned how the jet handles etc. on test airfield it's not as big a leap anymore to play in online games.

Cheers Virus. How do I download the test airfield map/where from, and how to install it?

Here : https://www.realitymod.com/forum/f354-c ... eased.html

Download it and just put the map folder into mods/pr/levels

or you can play on coop servers so you can get used to the FOG and the short airfield ,
and get used to the AA and how to attack - get around them without getting shot down .
