This thread breaks my heart :gloomy:

Although many of you have some really old rigs I kinda suspect that some of the issues could be resolved with tweaking or even some over-clocking.

I'm not an expert on this but personally I have had issues that seemed like it was time to buy a new pc but after a bit of tweaking the problem went away.

My latest problem was the 1 out of 6 cores issue. Even though i Have a 6 core cpu PR only uses 1.
I disabled half of the cores and boosted the 3 remaining once, which makes it work much faster with BF2.

My advice is not to give up on BF2-PR before you have tried to clean your registry.....de-fragment your C drive and game drive, terminate processes that you don't need while playing. running "msconfig" and try to disable the things you don't need while playing and restart your pc.

Just those few things could help you if you didn't try it already.

I just set geometry to low and effects to medium, then I can play again.

Biggest fps eater is worthless 100p support so the solution is playing on 64p servers which not a single one populated out there.

Unless if you staring at like 100p at once your fps won't be effected. the 100p servers put mostly a strain on the servers not the client. The distant sounds that you might hear from a lot more people could choke your cpu a bit though, sound is also limited to a certain number though so at a point the "old" sounds will be cancelled out.

Perhaps it isn't worthless if people decide to play on a 100p server and not seed the 64p ones? Your not making sense.

100 players makes even top-tier rigs to drop frames just because bf2 client is not made to handle this amount, even 50-60 players in the same area will cause some issues but its too rare case on 64p.

100p may be not worthless if done right but now it is, more than that combined with some settings restrictions - genuis idea.

acer 5250

AMD dual core e450 1.65ghz (x2)
6gb ddr3 ram
win7 64 bit
amd integrated gpu 6320

Now if ure new to all this let me recomend a program, processor lasso, DO NOT USE
RAZOR GAME BOOSTER !!!

run lassoo as admin!
Turn core Parking off
make bf2 and PR run on high.
shutdown or run below normal all other programs
play around.

Set al lsettings to LOW on PR set view distance to 75-85% and play infantry. You will not notice the view drop often.

IN pr 0.98 this allowed me to run at aprox 30fps
in pr 1.0 im running at crapola 10 fps.

This will help some of you but it wont help me. Anyone help here?

kitty as I mentioned when you first asked for help, you're options now are to flash the BIOS of your laptop with a custom made BIOS, to unlock the BIOS so you can use various programs to OC your CPU and iGPU until they fry.

None of you guys should give up on PR because you don't have the hardware to support it. While the devs tweak and optimize, it's up to us to stay up to date on the hardware side. How long do you expect these outdated system listed here to last?

PCGaming and computers in general is unfortunately an arms race. Want to enjoy your hobby the way you want, then save your money and update your hardware.

1.0 is running like silk for me for the most part, even the 100player servers.

ASRock Z77 Extreme4
[email protected]
12GB Corsair DDR3-1600
GTX670 4GB @ 1.25GHz
PR installed on SSD drive

Admittedly, this setup will still cost you some $$$ but once you fire it up for the first time, there would be no regrets.

Good luck.

Thanks devs for that vanilla-style gameplay with 100p and low fps. :)
I've got the same CPU and GPU (well, 660Ti) and i'm running everything on High with 60-70fps. Give your rig a good clean out and do a full re-install. You shouldn't be running that badly...

My rig is probably cleanest out there and i also running up to 100 fps maxed out unless there are shitload of players in VD range. Nothing to do with hardware/software.

Its not a hardware issue for me...I'm 99% sure its mumble. It used to make me lag when I tried it last and now its integrated I lag..Coincidence?

I can play single player with bots on max settings at 60 fps on any map but if I try to play online when it auto connects me to mumble (I assume) I lag.

Same kind of lag on the lowest possible settings or on max settings not a hardware or 100p issue its a buggy integrated program issue.

The original battlefield it is not uncommon to see 64 players in one spot and there is no performance issue. Boosting the original game up to 100 players would probably not be a big problem since game engines are designed to handle stress which means they are designed for more then scaled down to keep stability and availability in check.
The problem with PR is that they put the player count to the max while adding a lot of new stuff with high detail and not enough staff to spend on optimizing the models and levels to make it run smooth as a triple A game out of the box. (even bf2142 had to be patched after it launched because it had lag issues and they had a huge staff)

I'm sure they will continue to optimize and eventually it will be playable for more people.

It is not unlikely that it is mumble creating the stress, but it could also be Punkbuster. Have you tried to run it without mumble?

Yup Project Slideshow is just no fun to play at 8-20 fps, gonna upgrade next week to a new rig and I'll be back to play PR as it was meant to be played :)

Have to agree with Trooper though, mumble does seem to drain my system. As a seperate program it was okay but I could never run the overlay without serious fps drop and now what with it being intergrated into the game it's just unplayable.

The game is un-playable online for me as well. Single player does fine, though. I also noticed 6-10 mumble icons in my tray when I quit, just like in the beta.
