Why dissappearing mines in Vanilla BF2? That is lame. You set up a defense and it vanishes in minutes.

Perhaps each engineer could carry less mines...say 2 or 3 at the most. These mines stay the whole battle until destroyed. The engineer could reload 1 mine at a time. That way, it would take a long time to drop numerous mines but those minefielsd would stay there intact.

Let them stay till they are removed or detonated. Also, make them susceptible to direct fire from vehicles, arty or bombs. Could there be AP mines?

as far as AP mines there are claymores, but in RTCW: ET each team had 10 mines. If you lay all 10 mines you cant lay anymore, they stay there until something happens ie get defused or are blown up, and once one or two blows up you replace them with another 1 or 2. but im sure a game like BF2 could handle about 20 mines

I was aware of claymores, I guess I was just thinking about true AP mines although the ones in BF2 could suffice. Seems like specs ops AND engineers should be the ones to set those up not snipers. Dunno

Actually, if you guys want to be able to mine an area quickly, this is where something like the M139 Mine Dispensing System could come in handy... The M139 MDS can be attached to the side of a UH-60 Blackhawk or a variety of ground vehicles. It's capable of laying 960 Anti-Personal/Anti-Tank mines in an area of 1100mx120m with the right vehicle in a few seconds, how does that sound  Heres a good link on it...

What if PR had some of these, I dont think it would have to be able to deploy 960 mines, that may kinda lag up the game, maybe 250 mines or so in an area the size of a football field using a blackhawk would be nice, this would allow for a quick defense mine field, etc. And would just be plain sweet if PR had it...

No, Im not aware of any snipers using claymores as a basic weapon, thats why they have their observer, to watch thier back/observe... Most sniper teams(American) usually use an M16A2 w/ or w/o an M203(usually the observer will have a M203) Each man has an M16 or M4, and the sniper also carries the Sniper Rifle itself.

Wolfmaster wrote:engineer vehicle would be cool. it would give engineers the possiblity to make real big minefields, with one curvy clear path where the friendlies go through. the enemy should have a relatively easy way to clear the mines as opposed to just having the engineer disarm them. that wouldn't work. i mean a mine clearing vehicle like the Sherman MK1 'Crab' tank from world war II if such things are still in use.

also barbed wire is a good idea as well.
Good idea but they arnt quite like that now... i cant remember which dev told us the name of the vehicle which i cant remember :?

It casts out a line mixed with expolisive in it that creates a clear area 7m wide i think he said?

just driving through them with a ball and chain attached to the front of a tank when some of the mines are for blowing up tanks isent a good idea now a days.

Read in some other instances various FAE's and BLU-82's have been used for mine clearing. Not too sure how effective they were.
