Update:

Tried downgrading to patch 1.41 from both the steam and origin installs. No luck. Currently seeking a BF2 1.41 or earlier torrent. I have the cd key so nothing illegal please.

Why bother with PR, just go pure vanilla.
It is worth a try at least...

I honestly don't see a reason to play a game which is worse than the current version in every regard.

How so? I consider many older versions "superior" to the current built in many aspects, ranking higher on my personal list than 1.0, with 0.9 being so far all time favorite because of the overall more satisfying feel of the game (player numbers agree with me :p ).

Matter of taste and personal preference.

You sir are a fool. You never played .5 back when it was populated. Al Basrah with A-10's and Insurgent tanks was a blast. Back then Project Reality was alot more fun than it is now. It was perfectly balanced between Mil-Sim and Casual. Now PR is nofunz allowed ARMA clone. Don't get me wrong I appreciate all the work the devs put into PR but it's not fun as it used to be.

.5 > .9 > 1.0 > .6/.7/.8

I don't understand why he is getting so much hate. I never played 0.5, I started in 0.6 beta and it was great fun. Since then it has got much more serious, there is more content and it is much more complicated. That's good, and the quality of everything is probably better but older versions still have their charm. I remember having good games in all versions (except 0.8 or something which had ridiculous deviation), but I do believe the frequency was higher in the older versions. Sure, it's partly nostalgia, it's partly the people who were playing back then but it was also that the mod didn't take itself as seriously as now.

Again, that's not necessarily a good or bad thing, but personally I haven't played the PR in a long time due to the decline in player quality (the wrong way to put it I suppose, but I can't think of a better word) and that newer versions take considerably longer time to get into games along with some other little issues.

I don't think they are the same game. 1.0 is like hardcore 0.6, sort of like BF4 has normal and hardcore modes (but both even more hardcore). Both are good, just different, though 1.0 is more polished in regards to models, textures, effects (visuals basically).
