For PR it's not necessary to have outside seat for BTR...
BRDM is okay but BTR is horrible.

I mean honestly if you're going to have people riding on the top of BTR's you should enable the ability to ride on top of tanks and other vehicles. Make everything have 8 spots.
Edit: Just to clarify I'm not particularly fond of that idea, but I'm just saying there's no reason to have it for the BTR's and nothing else.

I agree, and I actually think that suggestion is pretty cool, maybe it would increase teamwork between tanks and infantry aswell?Bluedrake42 wrote:I mean honestly if you're going to have people riding on the top of BTR's you should enable the ability to ride on top of tanks and other vehicles. Regarding the 'riding in vs on' argument, whilst I know nothing about it personally clearly nobody told the Syrian army that BMP's are deathtraps and they should ride on top:
?? Syria ? Tanks with GoPro? ? Dropping Troops in Jobar - YouTube
Didn't see a single guy in the open - Looks like a very dangerous place to be indeed. Those BMP's are ferrying loads of troops by the looks of it.
It may just be a propaganda video however (I'm not discounting anything).

And the effect of an 'RPG' .. Not sure which sort, looks like it hit at a 90 degree angle to the armour and punched straight through to the ground (from above) - Skip to the end to see the damage to the compartment (unless it was an IED, coming from below upwards?).

Sitting on the outside is an advantage on Muttrah because if you have AA you can shoot any helicopters while moving lol

I lended a Merkava tank for MECHINF usage, we saw that day that it is the future.Ason wrote:I agree, and I actually think that suggestion is pretty cool, maybe it would increase teamwork between tanks and infantry aswell?

Duh, because the Merkava has enough slots to transport a whole squad and can be used just as any other APC/IFV for squads. Having your squad sitting ON the tank would be quite a different story. I personally avoid the BTR-60 in MechINF squads, because it sucks for any close proximity transport. One accurate guy can shoot of multiple guys from the top of it, which is just an annoyance.X-Alt wrote:I lended a Merkava tank for MECHINF usage, we saw that day that it is the future.

The point is, considering the BTR-60\80 has been a gr8 MECHINF asset, riding on top of tanks for transport\support would increase co-operation between tanks and inf. IMO, just remove the exit damage while moving on the BTR and everyone would prefer it over the other APCs for MECHINF. I also lended a CR2 on Vadso since a second set of crew did not join the TANK sqd, MECHINF (forgetting it wasnt large lol) was quite happy with it giving fire support directly tied into their sqd. This also eliminates the complications of SL->SL communication about giving armor support.Brainlaag wrote:Duh, because the Merkava has enough slots to transport a whole squad and can be used just as any other APC/IFV for squads. Well iirc the us/jewish soldiers used to do this too with the m113's because it would be a lot safer to stay on top and risk getting shot than being inside and basically killing yourself in case you hit a mine or an IED (which in a war against insurgents and unconventional military factions you can imagine was very common)[R-DEV]Rudd wrote:we have 2 versions ingame, one where you go inside and one where you are outside. The rationale IRL for sitting on the outside (iirc from our Russian lads) is that the passengers inside are very vulnerable to mines.
