Tip - coop has got two kind of vehicle assets - one is for players ( two seats, you will need a gunner or driver ) and AI vehicles which can be driven and gun at the same time by single operator

EDIT - Don't be concerned by age at all. This game is about teamplay and achieving the only goal - to have fun and win the war and I am sure many would rather have in their squad an individual who is valuable to them in a sense he helps his team and obeys orders rather than some unhelpful asshat - whatever their age might be

3. That is true, but if you're playing with AI, they are hard to control. You can't simply tell an AI to get in your heli/tank it seems like.

You're right, playing ALONGSIDE AI is a bad idea. However, during peak times the dedicated co-op servers will get full. You can play with other players against hordes of bots. Not only is it extremely helpful in learning the ropes, it's laid back and fun. Funner than I expected it to be before I first played a match.

If you see me (Psyrus.jp) in game, let me know. I'm usually on FCV because the ping is the best for me, but HOG too if FCV hasn't been seeded.

I had a similar situation with a 13 year old kid the other day, I don't mind people in my squad with no mics as long as they listen, but then he typed that he did have a mic but he was embarrassed about his voice... I told him the same thing I'll tell you... any squad leader or squad members who are too immature to act like an adult when they hear an adolescent's voice (or heaven forbid, a woman's), are not worth playing with.

My friends and I wouldn't blink an eye with a high pitched voice. I may ask how old you are and refrain from using certain phrases... but yeah just play the game, be confident.

There is one thing though that I have noticed, younger players tend to not have a good grasp on communication discipline. If everyone is joking around and whatnot, go for it, talk your heart out... but you only need to relay really important stuff most of the time (tank locations, the bearing of sighted enemies). And finally, when you go down (get shot... wounded) and would like a medic, tell the squad once when you go down... and then WAIT... sitting there saying "medic, medic... come on I need a revive" will not make it happen faster and will piss most people off... to the point where I've kicked people from my squad and instructed the medic not to revive them.

As for the chopper stuff, test_airfield is not a good place to practice... I suggest doing stuff like this if you're serious about being a decent pilot:

• Observe pilots as an infantryman, how do they do it... what did they screw up
• Start a local game, do lots of landing practices
• The most important thing is to not choose an exact landing spot when practicing, but pick an area then choose when it gets in visual range, that's much more realistic given that there are many unknown variables on a live battle-field.
• Practice those high speed crate drops so you know roughly where it'll land when you drop it at full speed... I see many pilots dropping the ccrates wayyyyyyy too early when doing it. Just pick a map with a runway, and try to go full speed putting the crates directly on the zebra-crossing lines

Here's a couple of examples from a few years ago of stuff I'd do for practice.

To me, first thing you need to deal with is that most older players will treat a youngster with raised eyebrows, if not asking you where your parents are(I know I did), but the latter is mostly just to tease you a bit; you're a nobody in this community as opposed to many others who are recognized by almost everyone, and they do not know what to expect of you.... yet. Your name carries reputation here more than in any other game, severe misbehaviour can ruin you for a long time.

With that being said, here's a few things that I think you should follow:
-Be aware of Da Rulez of the server you're playing on, some servers punish intentional road killing, while others don't. Some servers restrict attacks to only attackable flags, others don't. If you don't know whether or not a certain action forbidden, assume that it is or ask in squad or team chat.
-Stick with rifleman or medic kits for the first few weeks as these are simple to learn with and necessary, though not credited enough imo. Once you've had a bit of shooting and strategic practice, take the kit you're assigned to take by your squad leader. Leave important, difficult and/or specific kits such as the Combat Engineer, Anti-Tank, Sniper, Spotter, Anti-Air and Machine Gunner to more experienced squads or those that are likely to need some of those(Recon and Defense Squads, eg.).
-Confess thy sin and state that you're a new player. Nothing can be more annoying than handing out a make-or-break kit to a greenhorn or someone slightly above that, for example you operating a kit with an RPG or similar(referred to ingame as Rifleman AT or LAT(Light Anti Tank)) can endanger your entire squad should an APC pop up.
-Talk. Not only is it vital for your squad leader to make decisions on what you and others see, but it's also a time killer and let's other get to know you during "boring" times.
-Listen. Depending on your SQL, you'll be granted a lot, a bit or next to no freedom in your actions. That doesn't mean you can't sometimes talk him out of something you REALLY don't agree with(for example being tasked to cover an opening, but you can't do it from where he put you), but an experienced SQL most likely already thought about what he wants to do with you.
-Be polite. As stated, your name carries weight in here.
-Don't take anything fancy such as tanks, choppers or APCs until you've learned how. No really, don't.

These are more or less all guide lines that focus on you getting along with other players more than being successful, but you'll get better as time progresses for sure, patience and practice are key in this game.

Just talk I started pr near when it came out and I was like 13 or 14, maybe 12 I don't remember. Nobody knew or cared, except some people said my voice sounded like a forty year olds so maybe it is luck. Some guy currahee is like 12 but he plays good and like everyone else, thats all that matters.

No one really gives a flying fuck how old you are. I've been in squads where a guy who (judging by his voice) is 3 years the wrong side of puberty, yet he follows instructions and gets our squad out of jams, meanwhile I've had "adults" join my squad only to grab sniper/marksman and pretend that Mumble doesn't exist.

Just play and get familiar with people, and follow orders. You'll fit right in.

I dont recall people being hard on younger players. They are oftentimes more motivated than players slightly older than you . I do recall once a guy being kicked off the server, when mom was overheard over voip that it was his bedtime : p .

It sounds like it doesn't matter how old you are as long as you follow orders, communicate, and play PR, not COD. Also, I have had people tell me that I sound like I'm 15 or older, and when I make a video and I talk in it (lol), it sounds like my voice is in between a broken 13 year old voice and broken 15 year old voice. >.>

Im a girl and I didnt face any problems ( except when I join some squad where they dont care at all, dont communicate, nothing ) but I still think most people think Im a 13 year old kid but so far I havent experienced any bad behaviour

If you want to be a younger player in a crowd of immature adults it's best you have thick skin. If you're easily offended and take internet comments to heart you might want to stay mum on the mic. There are a couple younger players around, they managed to find their place and fit into the community by having the right attitude. I'm going to cite curahee here, when he joins an OD-S squad I'm unsure if he realizes the trollfest he is lining himself up for but the guy handles our jokes in stride and actually starts to contribute to the squad...I must say, I was surprised by the come backs and ability to weather the troll storm. You have to use your mic or you won't get into the good squads often, so keep in mind once everyone gets over the voice it really comes down to how you play the game.

People can harass you a bit if you got a really young voice, but it won't be that hard and most of them will respect you even with the little bullying -- as long you don't make shit while playing..

Listen to your SL, follow his orders and you should be ok. I remember when curahee150 started playing, he was 13 or something and everybody picked on him because of his really young (and annoying for most people) voice, but now he has been around for more than a year and everybody knows and respect him.
