Esperanto is not a very good concept from today's perspective btw. There are way better, more modern approaches.
I speak schoolboy German (very Rusty) with a smattering of useful phrases in Itallian, French and swahili. (Mostly focused around food, shopping, but also some healthcare related ones).
Yeah it's not good when people don't try, but I find the majority of people not trying to speak a foriegn language are my countrymen

We Brits (the English in particular) are lazy as sod when it comes to languages since English is the most widespread language in the world (Chinese Mandarin has more speakers afaik, but they are geographically concentrated).
Usually there are enough english speakers on EU servers for your needs, it's simply not possible to get everyone speaking English; although the people from non-english speaking countries that I've played with for years have definitely improved their English as time goes on.
And I think it's a bit unfair to expect people to learn another language in order to enjoy their leisure time online; especially when they are joining a server that predominately features members of their own nationality. That would be like going to a cafe in Berlin and being shocked that people in the cafe are speaking German.
The PR community has always been multicultural and that's something that is good about it imo, we've never had a problem with a lack of English speakers to the point the game is unplayable. Of late, it's a bit more timezone dependant but it's still good; particularly on Fridays and weekends when there are more players around.
