Bit of a necro but whatevs. Its really not that big of a deal, its part of the asymmetric balancing that the devs are constantly trying to implement. Everyone agrees that the Russian infantry is sub-par. They have old rifles, outdated antitank weaponry, bad scopes, and no shotguns. But their vehicles are great (T-90, BMPs, Havok, BTR, Tunguska).
It's just how it is.

The problem with Russian weapons is the rate of fire.
All the AR-15 variants have such high rate of fire that they cut short the recoil(thus lowering recoil in fullauto) due to engine problem to make fullauto have very little recoil...even though the stats in files suggest that AK-74 have lower recoil.

Am I the only one that has half a meter of desk space just so I can do a 180 while deployed on an AR?

I absolutely love the Corsair K60/M60
The M60 is a good size and offers a few extra buttons (AND DPI SWITCHING)
I miss them dearly.
Anyway, I'm actually rather fond of the PSO-1.
I'm curious though, why this assymetric balancing is in place. Are those vehicles as old as the rifles and such that are
being used? Or are they new vehicles with old equipment? Is this how the Russian Military is irl?
If they cut the recoil for one weapon, shouldn't the cut it proportionately across all weapons?

No, because AK-74 has one of, if not the, most effective muzzle brake in its standard form out there along with 5.45.
Only downside is that the muzzleflash is exaggerated at night so some internal troops use AKM brake at night, or so I have heard.
People can complain about AK-74 not shooting as accurately(though perfectly usable) as m16 but they can't ever complain about recoil.
Because it recoils less than AR15 that has default birdcage flashhider.
In-game, however, it had more recoil than any 5.56 weapon which was bs and was fixed in 1.3.

Am I the only one who always takes iron sights AK over scoped?
The scope is indeed useless in some way, but at the same time, on most Russian maps scopes are unnecessary to be honest, just spray & pray.
Unless you're taking the RPK.

You are not.

The Russian optics are all near useless except for the PKP machinegunner kit, at least for me..
The optics just feel very weird, huge, make you feel inaccurate for some reason, and the reticle is also strange.
Also why doesn't the Russian faction with scopes get the blur around the edge showing the outside? Is it the size of it?

It's to simulate the rubber "eye cup" that is around the edge of the scope. It resembles the sight picture IRL.
I'm in the minority among players here, I personally love the AK scope and hate the iron sights. I never switch to backup irons because the scope blocking most of the sight picture ruins it for CQC.

I like the Kalsh in game. Just think the "eye" should be moved back a bit. As the current in game animation has it so close you would bounce the receiver off your eye brow.

The AK's scope honestly is not that bad, I enjoy it because it has a clear, precise needle and for controlled single shots or bursts, it's fine.

Since i couldn't find it in the forums i took some time to take this images about the RPG reticle for those who wanted to try use it to extimate target distance. (i used the AAVP7 and the Russian Logi).
To shoot Light AT you need to use the left side rangefinder, with the Heavy AT you should use the middle one. Don't know for wich rounds is the one on the right.
Always remember that the cross is used for 50m shots.

Unfortunately not in this game, where naked eye can't see 200m clearly(depending on monitor resolution).

I guess that's why Russian SF is rocking Eotechs, Aimpoints. You ought to tell them they're doing it wrong.

Except when they're taking care of jihadis in Ingushetia, Chechnya, Dagestan.

Not all of them use those.
45th SpN VDV - Album on Imgur
45th not even using it in photo ops.
Or is 45th not "special" enough for you?

Reread the comment that sparked the discussion. It had nothing to do with the amount of SF units who do use optics.
