well it does, since if you do "tactical" reloads it decreases the chance of clicking when encountering enemys and it goes faster which meen that if you have a very short combat pause you might have the time to switch mags.
What i meen to say is that it benefits players who are aware of their ammo consumption, incase you are in a close quarter fire fight and you realise that you are about to go dry you should be rewarded for this with a faster reload time AS IN REAL LIFE!

Please use the search button as this issue has been raised and i agree with you Here is the threadMagnusKronn wrote: Additionally I think a soldier would save their half spent mag as well not just toss it on the ground, especailly now that getting ammo is much more difficult.
Keep up the good work,
See you on the Battlefeild,

this is a quote from the thread my save for later idea.
UKARMYCADET wrote: ...we could use a key on the keyboard that when your player is hiding round a corner or has chance to spare, all the saved rounds in the mags he has taken out can be put to make one or or more new mags. I am not even botherd if you animate this just press the key the player gets a mag in his hand add sound affects. The little white loading bar can spend about 10 seconds loading a wolla you have a new recycled mag.
My time was about 31 seconds to load a mag full in the cadets and i wasnt the fastest. so it can be done and it wold'nt take for ages.
eg: i am spec ops i have 8 mags in my hud
i fire 20 shots i reload.
i have full 7 mags left. just like it is now in 0.4 and vBF2.
i get into a fire fight i fire 15 shots. I reload. 6 mags in my hud. It goes down like normal.
Now i have some time to myself and my squad has me coverd. I press the save for later key. the animation and sounds effects happen.
now i have the same 6 mags and a 7th recycled mag with 25 rounds in at the end.
i can do this as many times as i want pushing the uneven mags to the end of my reload list all the time.

Basically there is no reason to run out of ammo whilst you are alive during a match on PR. But just incase we have the ammo dumps, and drop crates and if you can inpliment it get ammo off team mates to do this you could stand over a TEAM mates kit for eg: 5 seconds and you have all your mags full and back to normal. or if the dead teammates kit has only one mag left you only get one mag off the kit on the floor. This lets you keep the kit you have and love and not run out of ammo.
In real life mostly the only people that ever run out of ammo is people without communication and support and are stranded. and those people usually have a search and rescue tream looking for them!!! In PR you cant get stranded. its a game with start and end times.
If you do get stranded during those times it means that you have gone rambo and if you have gone rambo you are not working as a team!!!!
The ideas in this post should help teamwork and not make people go rambo if you are wondering / worrying. I would love to give covering fire for my team mates and have a organised flank but as it is now i find that most people are scared to use up ammo.
All of the above apart from the "dead mans kit" idea was intended for bullets only. Not nades, smokes and bandages or other things. So no people will not go nade spamming unless all there team mates are dead and even then they only gain 1 extra nade per person.
Obiosly some of this is "hard coded" but tell me what you think and if we should get what we can into the next patch.

As the lead coder for another mod. While I understand what you all would like to happen here. The ability to reuse unspent ammo, instead of discarding it. What you ask for is not an easy task. For one, animators do not grow on trees. The mod community is sorely lacking for good animators. There are many more mod teams than there are animators.
Just creating custom animations for reloading each weapon or saving mags, etc. is not an easy job, but will be a very time consuming job. Next, you will have to edit the game engine or recode how things work through the python code to implement this change.. if it is even possible to implement. Another nightmare. Then you will have to test, debug, adjust, etc.
I think the team here is better off spending time on improving other aspects of the gameplay, adding content, etc. Then trying to adjust animations and recode how magazines are saved, used, etc. It certainly sounds neat and would add more realistic realism into the mod. I just think, in my opinion, it also opens up a whole new can of worms and could create more problems that will take more time to sort out by an already overworked, hardworking mod team.
Just my two cents.

I would be happy if the white reload bar at the bottom just loads and you magically have your new recycled mags!!!(EoDDev)TrahnLee wrote:As the lead coder for another mod. the animations can be added at a later date. At the end of the day this is a public mod as so is all mods so it doesnt take a DEV to make it. Does it? so if anyone can make a animation if this mag recycle idea happens i am sure a nice DEV will add it in the mod.

I thought the upside down taped together mags were a bad idea because it gets dirt in the unused mags.
It's a shame you can't save partially used mags but since .4 you don't often run out of ammo. If you do, you either can't shoot very well or you have a sh*tload of kills and should be happy about that.

I've done it IRL. But not with the 100 Mile per hour tape. I had specially fabricated clamps that held them together.
Dirt don't do a thing to an Ak. With the M-16 and the SAW it'd be a serious problem.

Is it just me or is the grail animation wrong aswell?
You watch a dude fire it......he goes to his webbing pulls out a 4 foot missile then magically makes it float through the barrel of the grail without pushing it in from top or bottem :S
This might be another weapon but one of them is wierd.....
I would love to see an animation for the 50. cals on the tanks and vehicles instead of just the noice of the guy replacing the box it would be awsome if he actually did. Anyways another one for my wishlist.

I am surprised at the amount of discussion here. wow. I like the idea of tactical reloads. And if changing animation is not possible then obviously thats where the issue dies. Even if you didnt aminmate the tactical reloads verus the dry reloads it would make things more realistic.
But on the topic of ammunition:
I just finished playing a few rounds trying to get better with enginers and using their shotguns. Now, I have three shotguns of my own and I KNOW for a fact that if I shoot somthing with a slug it dies. Period. In game I put three or four slugs into someone before they dropped... I can accept the fact that the range of shotguns is reduced, fine... but when i'm 20 yards from someone and bust a slug in him they should be torn to peices... its a round the size of your thumb fired by 2 inches of gun powder! Theres no getting 'nicked' in the arm here. Also remove buckshot, if you have slugs then you wouldnt need buckshot.
See you on the battlefield
Magnus
Please give shotguns realistic damage. Right now it just feels like you're naked. An enginer might as well throw his wrench or throw a mine like a frizby for more effective damage.

Don't forget cover, or suppressing fire where you're firing at a position and enemy is located to keep them down, when I'm on with my guys I'll call suppressing fire on X location thats infront of the squad and they will open up and fire away at that, it burns munitions but in the mod I haven't seen anyone who wants to step out into that to try and take a shot at someone moving. Saves on smokes for when trying to get through smaller spaces and certainly draws the attention to that area from other flanks or gives other squads possibly in the area a chance to move if they were concerned with that.ArmedDrunk&Angry wrote:I thought the upside down taped together mags were a bad idea because it gets dirt in the unused mags.

The best I've seen it work was 2 of my guys opened up fire so I could advance and the 2 I had already moved ahead we're moving to flank the guy surpressed and when I moved a whole friendly squad followed out the guys i had in front, when the enemy was eliminated the 2 infront moved to cover those guys as they advanced making sure our right and left flanks were covered while I covered the direction we were trying to move...as we bunched up too much in the buildings a grenade killed us all but we moved in an organized fashion and covered each other while moving. I'm a firm believer in supressing and covering fire in the direction of an enemy with the potential to hit, As such (plus I play medic alot) I tend to run out of ammo if I'm not shot and killed because I'm not aiming at a specific target while firing, then again I've racked up kills because I ended up shooting an enemy who would step into the fire.
One way or another that chews through ammo fast.
