Re: Intel or AMD?
I got a FX-8320 combined with GTX970. All games run fine, except for Arma2/3 and PR. Im going to OC my cpu to 4.5-4.8 GhZ (if possile at all) but i dont expect a lot more frames. On Fallujah in PR im often stuck at 20-22 FPS, you cannot play like this... Graphic settings wont make a difference since my GPU is strong enough to easily handle max settings. For some unknown reason AMD cpu`s cant handle exactly the games you (or me aswell) want to play. Good thing you went for intel, i really suggest everyone who wants to play those games to buy an intel CPU. AMD`s are great for any other games though, almost same performance as Intel in BF3/4, COD, Insurgency, Red Orchstra, Warthunder...
Its hilarious, but theres no fps difference between 4k DSR resolution and literaly every single setting put to max or with 800x600 and everything on low. Its the same few frames, no difference AT ALL. The only thing i can do to get like 10-15 more frames (still dropping to 20-22 sometimes) is lowering the view range to only 50%. View range more than 60% will have same performance as 100%.
I have no idea why it is like that (even if you count in single-thread-performance my cpu should outperform some of the intel CPU`s, this is not the case tho), but Intel is the way to go. My Fx has same frames in PR or Arma/DayZ as a Duo Core E6800 which i had before. This CPU was the worst buy ive ever made. Not because its **** but simply because it cannot work well in the few games im playing.
According to ebay: If you buy the GPU of a private person you should watch out cause theres no guarantee that its working. It could be broken and the guy can say that it was working fine when he sent it. As long as you dont have solid proof that this is a lie you wont get your money back....
Theres a business section in ebay aswell tho, you get guarantee there. Dont buy without guarantee.
Usually those Ebay Prices are even more expensive than the cheapest Online-Shop prices anyway to be honest. Try to find a good store with cheap hardware. Theres even stores where you can buy B-Ware for lower prices. Still with guarantee tho, if shit is broken youll get your money back.

Has anyone ever purchased any components off of Ebay? I'm looking to get a graphics card off of there.
Believe it or not, I've never bought anything off of Ebay before. I usually buy stuff off of Amazon, or store sites.
Thanks!
It's fine.
Use Paypal.

I have. In fact, the Intel Xeon X5660 six core I'm using right now in my X58 system is what I bought off eBay to replace my i7 920 workhorse. It was $50 and arrived in working condition. I've been satisfied with the purchase. I also suggest using PayPal.matty1053 wrote:Sorry for asking this, but...

Re: Intel or AMD?
Sorry for not getting back, unfortunate events occurred on my end.
I made up a build on pcpartpicker, and my friend made me a budget build, How do you guys like them?
This one, is decently priced IMO... maybe it's on the weak side of the processor. It's a intel processor...
Intel i5-4460 build-$648.12
Now this one, is a cheap build indeed (lol). But I can upgrade it without a hassle in a few months. My buddy made this one for me, but I'd probably change the processor to a 6300.
AMD Build
Of course it's very cheap, but it will be upgraded in parts. (*note I will replace a few parts on the list)
No, they do not have Windows OS on the list yet, So, just add $100 to the prices. (I'd get Windows 7 Home since it's a bit cheaper than the other OS's.
And I'm looking into Ebay more. Since I saw some good prices on parts. (I saw a i5-4690k for $40 LOL, I was about to click "Bid" but the item timer ended literally a millisecond before I hit bid lol.)

If you are on a budget, I can sell you a Pentium G3258 for $50, you can overclock that on the motherboard you picked to 4.7ghz and run PR in fallujah without dropping below 60fps.matty1053 wrote:Sorry for not getting back, unfortunate events occurred on my end.

Also, Windows isn't that expensive. Go to g2a or /r/softwareswap or something.

Re: Intel or AMD?
Sad but true, I wish AMD could give Intel a harder time. Like the forthcoming Skylake lets release after the back to school in August in September.

Re: Intel or AMD?
Hey guys,
To anyone who purchased software/windows OS off of /r/microsoftsoftwareswap or /r/softwareswap...
Who are some verified/trusted sellers on /r/softwareswap or /r/microsoftsoftwareswap ?
I'm going to purchase Windows 8 64 bit (Probably home premium), and just wanting to know who is a trusted seller.
Thanks tons,
matt

Re: Intel or AMD?
I don't have many issues in Arma or PR, but I guess the single threaded performance of my 8320 isn't quite enough for some (41-50 FPS avg on Silent, occasional lag with Hydra 70 rockets up close), but if you're planning on PR, it's fine. FX is nice for more optimized games, but if you're unsure of what you're planning to play, go Intel. Arma and PR aren't exactly the most optimized games, so if you want all around good performance, get a 4690K or even an old 3570K or 2500 and relax.

Re: Intel or AMD?
I really don't know what games I'll play lol. Everyone on here will wanna hang me for this... but I honestly don't care about the graphics looking 'pretty'. I'd take smoother more 'constant' fps over pretty and less constant fps.X-Alt wrote:I don't have many issues in Arma or PR, but I guess the single threaded performance of my 8320 isn't quite enough for some (41-50 FPS avg on Silent, occasional lag with Hydra 70 rockets up close), but if you're planning on PR, it's fine. PLODDITHANLEY- Thanks! I've met a few people that use it and they said it's legit. Just wanted to know from people on here and their experience!
Thanks guys!

Re: Intel or AMD?
Here are 2 builds I created and I want to know what you guys think about them;
1.
Intel Core i5-4590, EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti, Corsair 200R - build1 - matty1053's Saved Part List - PCPartPicker
Am I too "overpowered" with the Power Supply? Or should I downgrade to a 500w/450w?
2.
Intel Core i5-4690K, MSI Radeon R7 260X, NZXT Source 210 (Black) - System Build - PCPartPicker
Not a HUGE difference between the first one and this one... but this has a 250 gb SSD and a 1tb HDD. No optical drive.
I am not planning to overclock; unless I have the need to for what ever reason. But I have a good feeling about these builds. I'm sure I can throw modern games at it and run them fairly decent on medium-high settings. But I am primarily making the builds for Arma 3 and GTA V (Possibly), oh and of course Squad.
Any feedback is appreciated, as well as suggestions!

#2
I haven't had the real need for a CD drive since 2011. If I ever need to use physical CD media, I have an external drive for that.
The 4690K is a nice choice in case you ever feel the need to overclock in the future. Once you get tired of the 260X, the 4690K won't bottleneck a future faster graphics card in the near future either.

if you can, (for an extra ~100), go with a evga 760 instead, you'll play modern games at high easy
or a 750 ti for a few more bucks
ps: please pull the trigger already, i swear you've been PC hunting for like the past 123159i months

Re: Intel or AMD?
If not planning to OC dont get a K mark cpu and save a few dollars. The real difference is OC capability and noting else. If you want to OC it plan a good water cooling system along with that K.
If you get ~60fps in games where you run with monitor which runs at 60Hz there is really no point in having 100 fps, thus OC is wasting power and reducing electronic lifespan.
And for OC that PSU might be in the low with 500W with all that inside. Consider 600+ W PSU.

Re: Intel or AMD?
If you buy a motherboard that is not H97/Z97, make sure to get one with an up-to-date bios. Older motherboards might not work out of the box with Haswell Refresh CPUs.

Re: Intel or AMD?
Never choose an AMD over an Intel Processor...
Times when amd's cpus were better are long gone...you will get way better price/performance with Intel.
Never had a Nvidia so im kinda an AMD guy =) Think they need more Power but never had any issues with the amd/ati cards
If you can afford it i would go for DDR4 Ram and some of the new CPU generation i think i7 6***k
But be advised : you have to buy a Mainboard which supports ddr4 and the new CPU chipset

Re: Intel or AMD?
I would watch specials now the new skylake are out there must be a lot of stock clearing going on soon, once all the enthusiasts have bought up the first releases of new chips.
Like massive only pay for a K if you will OC.
I just got screwed buying a cheap rebranded seasonic 500W and find I need more power for my 970, so my advice would be go at least 10% over what you think you'll need or buy very good quality.
