I see that you're from the Philippines. Myself and two other Filipino players have set up a Facebook group where Filipino players can organize to play PR together. There weren't many of us before, but since 1.3 has come out, we've seen a few new Filipino players who were asking around here if there exists a community or clan of Filipino players. You're welcome to join, and we'll do our best to teach you the ropes and make sure you have a great time learning the game!

Pero, kailangan talaga ng microphone dito. Kita-kits!
There is section for Clans/communities, where they can promote themselves. Please make thread there ;)

As a returner I was quite put off by the waves of new players and that I often join a (newbled) non-talking squad. On the other hand it's a blast to play again and all the new (talking! <3) people are amazing to see.

I really hope that everyone who recently started playing PR realizes very soon that playing without a mic is just silly. If no RL-disabillity prevent's you from normally using a mic there is simply no excuse - as was said before, the kids gloves will come off at somepoint and a few servers already enforce this already.

Personally I have no interest in having 'deadweight' players in my squad. I realize that might not be the same for every player without mic, but please consider this: As a SQL or just member I might not have the brain capacity to read the chat, while getting shot, shooting, communicating with those around me & Squad/SQL channel etc.

There are many situation that such a player might get me & my teammates killed, just because he can't communicate with me in the same way that any other normal (!) PR player can. You can have whatever a strange voice, accent, horrible english etc. No matter what gender or strange circumstances you think you might have that you can't use a mic in PR ... IT DOESN'T MATTER I WILL WHITE KNIGHT FOR YOU!

But PLEASE just get a bloody mic and communicate the bare essentials that are required for a pleasant PR-experience for everyone not just for you. You can already hear over Mumble, it's nothing special in PR, everyone has one & the only ones that get bitten are the those that don't answer. :)

I wish people would stop acting like if you don't have a mic, or can't use one at a given time, that you are worthless and should de-install PR.

I've played without a mic many times for various reasons. I've also played many times with people who do not have mics. I've also ran with squads that don't speak English. It all worked fine.

The only thing is you need to show the people you are in the squad with that you are listening to everything they say.

1. Stay right next to the squad leader all the time

2. Do everything the squad leader tells you, right away

3. Communicate as much as possible any way you can, type, or non-verbal.

When they know you are listening and are working with them they will be less critical.

I would never kick a player who didn't have a mic, just if they chose not to stay with the squad.

All that being said, PR is way more fun when you use a mic, and you can be a lot more effective with one.
How do you report contacts? By the time you type it, the threat is on you usually. 8 eyes and ears are better than 7 IMO.

Hmm, just to share my experience here, based on my experience over the last 3 days. I am a new player, even though it is the third time I start up in PR. First time with no mic, then with a cheap one that since broke and now finally with a decent one.

I think people are getting a little too hung up on the whole headset or not thing.

Yes... A decent to well voice communicating team player is allways preferable, but ... even people with headsets aren't that all the time.

I think most people would prefer an attentive teamplayer, even if he/she doesn't have a headset as opposed to non attentive and non teamplayers with microphones.

Granted I can completely understand the requirement for some form of competitive matches, but in my oppinion it's a little over the top for public servers.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, it would be preferable to sort people by interest, attentiveness and willingness to teamplay rather than simply narrow it down to a headset question. People can allways get a headset, but it's much harder to teach people to not be... well somewhat douchebaggery... Give the new people a chance :)

Well, yes and no. No matter how attentive you are, I have yet to see a person type out "oh shit enemy 225 close" faster than saying it. Communication gets slowed down, and it means more chat taking up your screen which is very annoying. Not to mention if you want to talk to someone close to you who is not in your squad, you are at the very least texting local, which blocks the screen of all your teammates and confuses the hell out of them.

You can by a shit mic for about 15-20 USD, which isn't much considering this is now a free game and you will not be kicked from servers and piss your team off it no mic is allowed.

Look at bf4 and pr. If you want full pr expierience, there is no other way. Like for squad leader mic is a must. I stand with opinion that mic is must for everyone to play this game just because of how much it adds to the imerssivness of the gameplay. And dont get me started about assets.

Of course new purple and stuff, but everyone must get used to communicate.

In a month, I'll go back to mic only. I can't remember a single no-mic player in my squad who wasn't rubbish.
well 90% of the questions new players ask could be solved by just reading the damn manual. Literally the first two pages of the manual show you what buttons to use to talk..

This is only because there are currently that many players without mic and no idea what they are doing. Once more new players learn the ropes and the guys without mic get filtered out things will return to the good ol' days. :)

I'm not saying that headsets aren't preferable. :)

Just thinking out loud that, people taking their first sniffs of PR, might not have a mike or will get one just for PR and it might be beneficial to let them get a taste of PR, before turning them away on a "technicality".

If they then really do like PR and stick around, I'm sure by far most of them WILL get the headset, to get the most out of the game.

Just saying that on this front PR could be more welcoming and that there could be potential great players and teamplayers, in that mass of people without headsets.

Offcourse if it's against serverrules, thats just how it is. I'm quite ok with that. :)

Ultimately it is possible to play and be a team player without a headset. But it can be extremely difficult not only for that player but as people have said, the players around him and in particular his squad. For example, I dread to think what it is like to try and lead a medic to your body through the chat!!

Therefore...

It is preferable to have one, as it not only increases immersion, it is generally quicker, easier, more sociable and ultimately it is much more natural to speak than to type (for most humans at least).

Ultimately if there is one game I would recommend having a headset for, it would be PR. In my humble opinion it makes everything 100x better and you won't regret it! ;)

If you have a PC and can actually run Project Reality then you're not a goddamn african kid without 5 bucks to pay for a mic. C'mon, if you're willing to play this game properly you MUST have a microphone, a decent one.

What the hell, guys.
Answer as easy as possible - NO, u can not play online without keyboard, or mouse, monitor or microfone.

P.S.
How can u imagine Squad Leader, who need to do fast decision in comprehensive conditions with lot of people, speaking to him with 3 radio channels, few guys aroud speaking local and YOU, typing in chat????

I would highly recommend playing Project Reality with a mic. Microphones aren't that expensive, i paid 7 Bucks for mine and i am using it for almost half a year now.

I think a lot of new players are scared that their voice is too childish or they are shy/can't speak english, that's why they are afraid of using their mics.

I never had any player in the squad who was mocking others because of the language issues or voice.
When i started playing Project Reality back in the days you got kicked out of almost every squad if you wouldn't use a mic =)

New Players should just give it a try and will get a 100 times better game experience than without a mic.

First option.. thats the only reason why I play PR.
