Steam Community :: Group :: Project Reality : NVPA

Hello.

I have decided to form a server and community which runs Vietnam most of the time. If not just to see how it goes.

Now with PR 1.3 there are also a surprising number of newbies who are actually very good at the game already and are perfect for a good teamplay environment, so the time is now for making a new group.

Anyone is free to join the Steam group to get added onto the userlist while we sort things out. Thanks.

EDIT: Also bear in mind this is purely theoretical right now.

I haven't got the slightest clue about the PR server hosting/licensing process, nor do I have a dedicated server just laying around somewhere.

Project might fail terribly. Server owners appreciated. :P

EDIT 2: A 64 server is hard enough to acquire, a 100 player server is out of touch for a few people alone.
I MIGHT have some resources which would let me keep a server running but if I don't, then it is obviously insane to go and attempt to build your own server or something.

PR is a very big game, 100 player is quite a job for a server to run. It can and will easily run 100+ USD per month.

I just posted this to arouse interest : currently the endeavour is basically impossible.

Because it's almost impossible to detect the enemy in the bushes in this game engine .. most of the maps are spray and pray combats .. not so fun

That new Omaha map is crazy. Feels so real and the gameplay was brutal. Download the alpha and play it by yourself just to take a look.

Working on this little piece here, may be of some interest to people who have lost faith in PR:V.

Hill 488 is a 1km map, but it is never used to seed.

So that leaves only Ia Drang. That is the only Vietnam map that players will ever play on.
Last time I played Hill 488, it favored NVA. And it's my favorite Vietnam map. I don't mind playing US on it as I know all the best FOB spots that helps turn the tide into our favor.

Vietnam really needs an urban map to liven it up. I really hope your project goes well!

Because they are the same thing over and over again. It's always IA drang and not other Nam maps.

When Nam gets a good Urban map... people will like it more.

Eh, serious lack of high-quality Vietnamese building statics - I wouldn't hold your breath...

I tend to like the Vietnam maps. It's a unique experience to play on them compared to some of the modern maps and it has a whole different but unique atmosphere. And personally bushcamping and that sort of stuff doesn't bother me because guerilla warfare was the main tactic of the Viet Cong during the war and it somewhat makes the game seem more "real."
Plus there is nothing like walking through the jungle on patrol only to be ambushed by Charlie and having a chaotic firefight randomly firing into the jungle. But my only complaint on the Vietnam maps is that I wish there we're some new ones added.

The "Viet Cong" or "Viet Minh" as they were more properly known don't actually feature in PR:V. Only the North Vietnamese Army (NVA) is featured, which did make significant use of ambush tactics, but was otherwise a conventional military.

I never said there isn't high quality statics. I'm just saying Vietnam needs a more Urban map. I like Ia Drang but it gets very boring. I loved that Dien Dong map back versions ago. But I think someone is working on a Urban map.

Hill 488 is fun though. Especially at NIGHT.

Op Barracuda Vietnam is fun. It's different.

Tad Sae is IMO a very good nam map.

Charlies point is good, but man... if you have a good NVA team... no chance lol.
