Think "the the arty destruction scene" in Band of Brothers, did the Americans turn the guns around 180 degrees and start shelling the Germans? No. they tossed some explosives in the barrels and cooked em so the Germans couldn't use them again if they had succeeded in fighting off the Allied invasion of Normandy.

Yes, but think the delta assault on the technicals during the night in Blackhawk Down. They sneak up and take out the guys on the rocket launcher, and then they use it to destroy the .50 cal technical. So I think spec ops should be able to use enemy TOW launchers and maybe AA. But of course if you guys are in final testing, then this is really a 0.6 issue, so pay no mind.

I think the nilla heads are going to head for the hills when .5 is released and we will be back to the hardcore element for a while, which is good.
When word gets out about how great .5 is we will see an influx of new people but the lonewolf run and gun types won't stay, which is good.
The locked emplaced weapons will be a hassle but it adds another element of strategery to the game, which is good.

I cant see how this is a bad thing.
because you are a dev .

what is more dificult ? turn a 88 mm gun or turn a hj-9 ?

if you capture a flag , then a t90 appears , its soo dificult to take the hj-9 and destroy the tank?

"Appears" in the "over the horizon" sense I think is what he meant.

As I said, I think a spec ops soldier, when faced with an enemy tank, would in fact use a hostile TOW launcher. He'd also probably be trained in it, unlike his fellow soldiers.

xg, your squad mechanics are off because your assuming every squad is rolling around with a tank/apc. That frees up 2 spots right there. And if you do have an APC, that frees up even more spots (you wont need rifleman or AT kits)

like I said before, TOW launchers respawn. So if you cap a base with a tow, blow it up and one for your team should respawn in a couple minutes. Simulating destroying enemy assets and moving light mounted weaponry up from the rear.

dhimmi puts it well.

remember all .5 is - is a step towards .6,etc, where things will make even more sense. I seriously dought this will be THat big of a deal.

Whenever you complain, just think abut it from the perspective of the guy in the tank.

Heh .. not unintentional :p

Leaving out quality control issues (of which, for example, the M4 is a "quality control" issue) v0.4 is too "gamey" (mostly my fault).

However it certainly did help us to expand the player base. Expand isn't the right word .. I guess "solidify" might be a more appropriate term. Even today as the "most played" BF2 mod, PR still has a very small player population (all BF2 mods do).

With v0.5 and v0.6 we're going to take steps to move the mod to be more aligned with "milsim" oriented players. Not saying we'll ever have "single life rounds" or anything like that.. it's a game and always will be hopefully fun to play (as long as you are "that kind" of player).

But we're going to weed out some of the gameyness and will be adding elements that many current players won't like, but will appeal to folks who have 2 choices for a realism and team play oriented multiplayer combined arms modern conflict setting:
  • Project Reality
  • ArmA
We'll still be working with some metaphors and such, but if we can make the engine do some of the things we're going to try .. then polish up the issues .. we'll be introducing some stuff that will hopefully be unique and innovative and, once polished up, come together for a very compelling gaming experience for a niche of players that is hopefully large enough to find a decent ping server 24/7.

Just make SF's a restricted Kit that can use enemy assets.

Do you really think that is a good thing? You should be encouraging people to appreciate this style of game, not arrogantly disparaging them.

i wouldnt say .5 will make people less inclined to teamwork "fuck off", but for them to enjoy the game they will most likely have to open their eyes a bit

I agree 100% McCleod, To many ppl on PR seem to have a big problem With accepting new players, All so i find it very insulting when these sort of ppl are wanting to say such things as Vannila noobs or even more so Retards and saying they should "Fuck off" as the last post said.

We should be welcome them with Open arms and guide them throw PR and help them, i have been told that i should go back to BF2V or what ever, strange thow because i only started PLaying BF2 3 Dec 06 and started to play PR on the 8th and not played BF2 since...so does that make me a Retard or a noob for playing BF2 like im sure all other persons did b4 they played/found PR??

I have absolutely no problem with people coming to this mod from vanilla BF. In fact I encourage it. I just have a problem with people who only come to this mod because the increased effectiveness of guns gives them a higher turnover for their nade and UGL spam, and their run and gun style. I love it when I find noobs who are willing to learn how to work as a team. I love it when people come over from vanilla. However there's also people who say "I don't care about teamwork, I'm just going to play the way I like-- which is to be a lonewolf and whore anything I can for points". While I can't stop these people from playing, I can and will be very pleased with anything that compells them to leave. When I say 'nilla noob, I mean people who are treating PR like it's vanilla BF. And yes, those people will hopefully f*** off.
