Kind of makes me think of the old adage "be careful what you wish for, lest it come true". People want night maps, but on the actual servers you hear a lot of people complain they can't see anything

well thats what i love about night maps, its alot harder, and for a realism mod harder is beter for teamplay, if the nightmaps are done right, they will be played

night ops is a very valid and real military activity, but we need to make some real night maps that work well.
wrt the vBF2 maps that might make an appearance in a future release, it'll just be the best ones and they will be significantly re-jigged to be better suited to PR.
wrt the mapping guidelines, we'll publish them when we've tested out any possible issues as they are quite detailed and will form the basis for the mapping contest we will formalise shortly.

I think Dragon Valley and Fushee pass were very good vBF2 maps. There setting/atmosphere is some of the best. As well as Oman. As for Karkand its just way to overplayed. Im sick of it.

'[R-DEV wrote:Rhino']we are not wiping the slate clean of maps... there will still be plenty maps to play after we have got rid of the nightmaps and stockmaps. 20 is more than enough for you guys. I think vBF2 has 12maps when it came out if im correct?
I think 20 is enough. I just wasn't sure if we were getting 20 new maps or if you were just taking 20 maps we already had and just fixing them up a bit. No night maps and no BF2 maps is what we run on the ECGN server anyways.

We'll probably put up a list of vBF2 maps that we think are suited to PR then canvass the community through a poll for which of those maps we should optomise for a future release.
I'd like to see if we can salvage a couple of maps for PLA and a couple for MEC. To spice those maps up we might swap the teams around a bit (maybe convert a couple to Brit maps). Additionally PR has not developed very many "combined arms" maps so ideally we can find a couple of the vBF2 maps that fit that bill.
Good job!

Thanks for the update eggman.
It sure feels like Christmas while I wait.
On the night maps, Devils Perch is awesome for BF2-SF, not that I have played whack-a-mole in a very long time but I remember loving some of those firefights back in my flag dance days. Dont know how it would translate into a PR map. I'm probably talking out of my *** right now as I think you guys got legal issues with the vBF2 expansions and cannot use them. Please feel free to correct me on that. In PR I always enjoyed Mashtuur at Night, My computer didn't like it so much but after lowering some settings I had some scary, intense firefights on that map. The flag cap order was certainly twisted IMHO. I am very curious about that map with AASv2 and with the optimized lightmaps and such in a future release. Hope to see it again.
Thanks again to all the crazy modders, coders and mappers.
You have no idea how much I am looking forward to this $%&^ release.
PR Whores Delight server is gonna run pure 16p joy. Need Ammo?

Bah, don't get rid of all the vanilla maps, at least keep Oman and Dragon Valley (I mean you do have the "sequel" maps for both of these), where else would we get our PR fighter fix? Apart from Greasy (with a wonderful viewdistance of 2 feet for jets) there is nowhere for people to dogfight.

If you read the first post this is a temporary move until the 0.6 release where some vBF2 maps will be brought back

unless you want us to delay the build they wont get in unless i find lots of time of extra work, then the testers will have anouther map to test.
also oman would be a much better map with AAS v2

Ahhhhhh, fo'shizzle.
Im gonna miss karkand. I liked the way it wasnt too structuraly layed out, making it a more confusing and flexable enviroment....THe flanks, the Tanks, and the fighting on trainwreck banks.
...mongol...

As much as I've enjoyed Karkand, and I DO enjoy Karkand, the time has come for PR to ditch all the old stuff and strike out at new territory. Kwai is good, Ghost Train ain't bad, Kyong Ganni or whatever it is is good too...
We want something new, something suprising, something that opens up new tactical possibilities. Choke points are important but not so much that every time you play a map you get bogged down into the same repetitive kill zones...
We want modern wide open warfare, not the battle of Verdun here...

I don't mind seeing the vBF2 maps go. Karkand is terrible for PR. It's simply the vBF2 tard-rush because the spawns are so close.
The only halfway decent vBF2 maps are Oman and Mashtuur. All the other ones are terrible. Back when we had objective mode the one night map was fun, forgot the name, but it had the us in the city with the radio station and such.

0.5 would solve that issue...
