He wanted us to send civilian mailorder ammo to his APO address (which isn't legal, it turns out).

To make a long story short. He now has an Ak-47 and can buy ammo locally, dirt cheap.

What the fuck unit is he with? We had more ammo than we knew what to do with. Literally 15,000 rounds of 5.56 and either linked .50 or 7.62 for the gunner PER TRUCK. Never mind what we had back on the FOB or on our persons.

I would love to see stuff like this in PR eventually. Some kinda old sniper rifle and the likes too. As Eddie says.. I dunno if we'd go out of our way to do it. Weapon production takes a long time. But we do have some folks in Black Sand that might be able to help

1. Play as US
2. Kill MEC
3. Pick up AK
4. ???
5. Profit

No need to give US random weapons.

theres already a rifleman in game why add any other class

it comes down to choice, diversity in a game is always good if its of a good startard and improves gameplay

Fact is, that US soldiers don't get equipped with AKs.
They pick them up on the field.
So should they do in PR.

but they pick them up in the field and use them in later operations, or they buy them before they go into battle they dont pick up a random ak in the middle of battle and start shooting away

That's when you pick up an AK at the beginning of a map, and use it until the end.

So if you a US soldier and you find a stall selling AK's in Iraq you can just go and buy one ??: wouldn't their be a political disaster if say a soldier died in the field while using an AK that he had to buy because the 16 wasn't good enough.

BAH HA HA ppsha from all the way back in the EOD days of 1942, i bet very few of you played that amazing mod, it definently beat DC for best 1942 mod.

This is sad but true, our troops in alot of areas are pretty under supplied or have shitty stuff. My dad bought an armour vest of some sort, because the one the army gave him sucked it didnt have some kind of protection, i think lower back or something like that.

Well isn't this kind of old news? There has always been problems with the M16, during the Vietnam War American soldiers often (from what I've heard and read) traded their m16s for captured Ak47s.

For the record, I have absolutely no clue what unit my friend's son is in... and I don't know his MOS either for that matter. I'll try to find out the latter, but I won't go posting logistical shortages about deployed units on the internet. Insurgents have computers too.

I had a few relatives who served in Nam. None of them liked the "sweet 16" One uncle said he carried a Swedish K and another carried a M-14. I think it is inherently a crappy gun and always was. The "improvements" made to it have all been stop-gap solutions for a shoddy design. Ie, that forward assist button on the side to help deal with some of the rifle's constant jams and stoppages. It is an aluminum .22 with a lot of small parts.

This is a rumor I heard. I have heard it from 2 sources whom I consider reputable (A spec ops cop and a Marine Recon). I heard that there are a limited ammount of MADE-IN-THE-USA Ak-47 rifles being ISSUED to certain special forces personell.

My friends in Iraq don't have those tho, they have AKs they bought.

OK, I've actually heard that the Swedish K (K-Pist) was used in Nam and that it was issued to soldiers, so I looked it up.

I don't think postin enfo about deploed unit on the internet will make any diferance. The is no full war in Iraq. All position on US base are well known to the insurgent.

Yeah the locations maybe.... but not how well supplied they are, what kind of gear they use and so on... even though it probably wont matter it's not smart to leave out sensitive info which might lead to soldiers getting killed...

EoD is a -GREAT- mod.. it is still around if I"M not mistaken, and they are working on a BF2 mod... I played EoD up until last year.. then I got too involved in other RL stuff and my only game I had time for was BF2...


Weren't the M-16 problems in 'nam related more to the ammo than the gun? Maybe that is just propaganda...

Either the history channel, or the military channel, did a great piece comparing the M16 to the AK47. As they were in Vietnam that is. The AK47 has greater stopping power and will perform with little to no maintanance. Because of this it sacrifices accuracy. WHile the M16 is accurate, it fires a slightly less lethal round and is known to be problematic if not maintained properly.

I was doing some training at a local base on weapons familiarization. Purpose of which is to expose us to weapons that we may encounter in country. Basically these weapons were what was actually found in some caches in Iraq and Afghanistan. WW2 flamethrowers, you name it old German weapons, gold plated pistols with accrylic handles under which the picture of some smiling Iraqi was placed. The gold plated Ak's. Probably the most interesting of the weapons (other than the flamethrowers, and weedblower converted into a gun), was an anti tank weapon of russian origin. This thing was nearly 10 feet long. I would imagine it would take two people to put that weapon to good use. One guy to lug around the behemoth and another to transport the large ammo rounds.

Point is it would be interesting if the insurgants kits were of the unconventional type. Well at least a few of them.

It was probably an Anti Tank rifle. Either a PTRD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PTRD) or a PTRS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PTRS)

God knows where they get them from, even moreso...how the hell these weapons still work....or even even more....where the hell they get the ammo from?!
