Don't mention mapsize, as most of their maps are 2km, like PR. If anything, PR has the game more spread out where in FH2 everything is much closer together (which you'd think would stress your pc more, but it doesn't).

They managed to optimize the game so well that hardly anyone has a hard time playing it.

If only PR could have the same optimization...
I disagree partly. FH have definitly taken better care of map design and static design in order to help performance. Their drawcalls are much lower and their statics are much better developed with greater care.

And their maps are better paced allowing for an even spread of objects. But they have much lower object counts, OG counts and often their maps have large combat zones and dead zones.

I don't think they are comparable. But it's very true that FH took much better care of performance then us.

True, they're not entirely comparable. Still, they too have plenty of objects gathered in one location.

Anyway, I wonder what we can learn from it and if there are things we can implement into PR, without it being an overhaul of just about everything, hehe. But I know it's not as simple as changing some settings and hooray, we're there...

wow, its your CPU thats slowing your system down, I have a GTX 970 and CPU is 4690K. i run afterburner ( gives your real time stats of your hardware usage ) and the GPU hardly ever goes above 40 %..

but the CPU does get quite high, you need to upgrade your CPU man.. trust me..

and yes my FPS is always above 60 FPS except in some heavy city maps

yeah, i overclocked today to 3.4GHz, but the temperature running PR on all low is 83C

lel

my problem is if i want to go any generation higher for CPU, i gotta replace mobo, and im a little worried my big heat sync mightnt fit. also my heat sync has a back bracket and its harder to fit in as my chassis doesnt have a removable back wall. so all in all, if i want to upgrade, im looking at almost rebuilding the entire thing for over 600 euros.

Your big heat sink does not seem to be that good if you get that high temps. You can also just check which sockets the thing will fit on.

when i got the heat sync at first it gave me 18C which at the time was lower than room temperature.

i think its due to bad airflow due to putting a new hard drive in behind a front fan and blocking the flow.

There are a few modern mobos that still use DDR 3 RAM but sadly most need New DDR 4.

Just leave it open?

How old is your thermal paste?

i think it might be 7 or 8 years old

xD

Does leaving the side door open actually help? I thought the draught from one side of the chassis to the other was the whole point of having a case.

Just remove it and see if the temperature decreases?

Wouldn't the 7 or 8 he a r old paste be a more logical cheaper first step, I would have though the cup cooler would have cooler air if you have an airflow problem, worth a try.

It's not as per say LOD "problem" but engine one.

You may get lag spikes not due to LOD but to animations (specially if it's an AI player) as those are captured by your GPU too as your GPU has to re-render all of the movement. I have no idea why, but all BF games (3 and 4) have this issue. I myself upgraded and don't experience it anymore in any game but I did have issues like that with older system.

If you want to lower the LOD build a mesh or lower view distance although I think that view distance in this game is already very low (PR Devs, any plans on raising this? I am used to ArmA 2, can't fly a jet in fog^^, I saw some BF2 players mod their view distance to maximum possible)

P.S. Someone said PR (thus BF2) runs on a single core, is this true? I saw an advert looong ago in BF2 map saying Core2Duo More Frag Less Lag - indicating it's dual core optimized, never bothered to check myself though. For me the game uses barely 15% resources except RAM memory, PR loves to eat up ram (and can't blame the mod, it's the engine + so many buildings and details, speaking of which for an old mod great job whoever worked on it)
