I played a game a week ago where this guy nuxus decided to go around and team kill everyone on my side. The a few days later played a game where a guy on the other side kept blowing up his own caches. In these cases, I think we should have switched to bunny hunt mode where everyone just kills the offender until he leaves

Re: I remember a game when........
Mouthpiece is exactly right. The culture of PR changes based on the SLs that play the game and their level of tolerance of the bullshit that everyone deals with when playing PR. Content aside, PR has been the same game ever since it has been released, drawing in the same type of audience and giving the same type of experience every time we play, coordinated teamwork in a massive online realistic battlefield.
Through all the bullshit and boring gameplay we suffer through, we strive for that 2% chance for those great moments we can only get when playing PR, when everything comes together. I can guarantee that the reason why those "old players" are reluctant to playing PR at least once a week is that they are afraid that chance has fallen, even to something like 1%. And even that tiny chance for those great moments in PR isn't what's stopping them from even trying; it's the fact even if they do, its the same exact experience they had a week ago, a month ago, a year ago. They need that moment to feel new.
And there isn't a singular reason why this is happening. A small part is the servers run the same pool of maps, another small part is that there just isn't as much new content released on average as there has been in the past. But no matter the reason, PR will not die until there is an exact replacement of it. Every year there are threads like these that reminisce of past versions of PR how they are supposedly better and at any point PR will finally die; but the best version will always be the one that is most recent. Every new major release of PR, players will come back if what is new excites them enough, and they all pray for that 2% chance again, and they will stay if they get their fix.

Not sure how PR is going to work without the launcher, PR Master Server etc but if that all ruins the gameplay I guess we have no choice

Pretty much this, i play for the fix. My addiction is too far gone now, i can't even scratch that itch playing blufor as INS. Chasing that rare round.[R-CON]X1 Spriggan wrote:-snip-
I honestly believe inf combat was better in .98 (although shooting the ceiling instead of the guy 2m in front of you was a bit annoying), Memberberries aside, the game works better when inf combat is slowed down rather than sped up (fast as it's ever been atm). Obviously a lot of great stuff has happened since then, the amount of content in this game is truly insane.

Exaclty. And they don't grow in experience as we have definite lack of good zero tolerance SL's who can show them how this game is played the right way. Not some "eh, we need a medic, rest take whatever kits you want, except sniper", and proceeds to do something-something. How can we drill the masses so they understood that this game can really fucking shine when everyone in the server works like a clock? I think we can't. The cancer has spread throughout the system. Good oldschool (and also good new SLs who have experienced the old school leading style as grunts or seen a lot of TG/T&T'esque vids) SLs just can't deal with the bullshit that they get nowadays.Wicca wrote:The grass might have been greener then, now its the players that are green..

Re: I remember a game when........
Well no shit. But you're overlooking the problems with the game itself. There's no incentive to work as a team unless you're crewing a multi-man vehicle or if you know somebody really well. The mumble spam has gotten out of hand. People who use teamspeak are looked down upon and rightfully so, but I cant blame them because sometimes you can have 50 guys yelling at you in main. I used to lead squads religiously until I got sick of all the bullshit and said fuck it. The player quality only decreased when the squad leads stopped caring. Now I just stick to coop because honestly it's more fun than vanilla PR. Deployment is a fucking chore. I no longer have the patience for this ****. I dont care that it's more casual not having to wait 20 minutes to respawn it is better than having to put up with roleplayers and armchair commandos screaming at you for fucking up in the slightest.Mouthpiece wrote:Exaclty. The community has become toxic. I hate doing this but I had to yell at people for doing stupid shit like getting HAT kits when other squads needed it or getting a useless kit like rifleman AP or spotter. Also there's a certain subset of people in the game who dont want to play with others and would rather do their own thing. We had a mode for them to fuck around in and that was Insurgency. But now that's pretty much dead because of all the insurgent nerfs. People who like insurgency are either blufor whores tripping on their own power or those nostalgic for the days before 1.0 when you could actually do something.
Also I think 1.4 played a huge part in the decline of player quality.
If you want Spawnable RPGs and SVDs for Insurgent team

Re: I remember a game when........
I see way too much tacticoolity and "looking for realism" nowadays. And this stuff is as cancerous as lone-wolfing-ramboing. Tacticools and realism-seekers could roam through the woods kilometres away from the objective, flanking those who're flanking them in order to flank everybody and not to be flanked, covering each other or camping inactive objectives waiting for others to cap flags.
People should understand that this game is about "playing objectives", that's what this orange shield on the map means.
And I will disagree with the lower quality of player base today. I think it's core of the player base which grew old and become grumpy and intolerant to anything but "good" teamwork. If you want something to be done it's better to do it yourself sometimes, but instead people "are tired of that bullshit".
