Sunday. 21th July, 2009. Korea.

At 01:00 hours, several hundred North Korean troops paradropped over the cities of Seoul, Chuncheon and Wonju, quickly establishing heavily fortified positions. Jeeps, motorcycles and additional artillery were flown in with transport helicopters. At 04:20, the DMZ was cleared for mines, enabling the Korean 1th, 3rd and 23th Heavy Armor Division to break through and continue towards the conquered cities. The quick insertion completely took the unprepared South by surprise, and before nightfall, almost a quarter of South Korea was under Northern control.

At 22:37 near Cheongju, The car belonging to the supreme general of the South Korean army, Cha Yung-gu, was hit by a Air-to-surface missile missing it's intended target. The general died instantly alongside two high-ranking officers. His disappearance, followed by the news of his death led to massive panic spreading in the ranks of the already hard pressed South Korean army. His successor, Lieutenant General Choi-Jeung Han was later appointed leader of the armed forces. President Roh Moo-Hyun, badly misinformed by his advisors regarding the strength of the invading forces failed to call on a counterattack before the enemy has already seized many airfields and important strategic points along the coastlines.

The sudden outbreak of war sent shock waves though the entire world. And in less than sixteen days, the country of South Korea was forced to declare a state of martial law. Soon after, president Roh Moo-Hyun was evacuated to Japan following an attack by combined infantry and air units on the presidential palads in Gukhoe, killing and injuring several parliament members.

(Wow, pretty amount of flaws in there, but at least it's a working idea for the North Korean campaign)

With a large part of the US and British militaries bogged down in Iraq, a few Far-East countries set in motion their plans to acheive a higher standing on the world stage. In China a military coup had replaced the government with a radically anti-western premier: General Ziang. Ziang aims to reap widespread revenge on the US for its implementation of what he vies as unfair tarifs. These tarifs, designed to give US manufacturers a chance against the cheaper Chinese goods have had an unexpectedly huge negative impact on the Chinese economy. This impact caused the former chinese government to reduce spending on the Peoples Liberation Army and, consequently, Ziang's salary. Ziang felt that this was a very disrespectful move by the US, and has engineered his coup in order to persue the following actions.

Abandoning his countries stance condemning North Korea's posesion of Nuclear Arms, Ziang has engaged in secret conferences with the DPRK leader, also a military man, General P'Yong. He promises to support a DPRK invasion of South Korea in order to remove the presence of US Marines and a possible staging area for US strikes against China. Using the North Korean Army to destroy US forces in Korea will free up Chinese forces to invade Japan and Taiwan to wipe out US forces stationed on those islands.

Extending a hand into the Middle East, Ziang has offered nuclear weapons development secrets to both Iran and Syria on the grounds that they will declare Jihad against US and allied forces in the middle east and feed the hungry Chinese military in its actions in the east. The attacks on US and British forces by the secretly formed Middle East Coalition will also tie up an even more significant portion of those nations militaries, significant enough Ziang hopes to allow China to take an easier seat as the worlds largest superpower.

Probably alot of holes, but not bad for 30 minutes or so of work (i hope). Im sure theres people here who could fix/improve this story, or come up with a better one and your help is appreciated!

Very cool, waffen and Broken. I like both of them quite a bit. I'd like to add some of my own stuff too eventually, but I wouldn't mind getting a nod from the DEVs about this before I start thinking too hard on the subject. In my spare time I'm a freelance writer, so I'm sure with the help of the community we can all come up with something cool if it's all right with the DEVs.

I think one of the best things you can do in a game is give a back story to it. That way you feel like you're fighting for something (even though your not).

If any of you have played the game Freedom Fighters you might know what I mean. Russia invades America, you kind of feel like "damn it, I have to help take back my country". It's really a nice immersive feeling you get. In my opinion it's always nice to have. Plus it's not neccessary to read if you don't want to.

I believe if theres going to be a story for this it's best to use 'in the near future' type scenario. This way you don't offend anyone, can use fictional characters, and so on.

Your stories kind of remind me of some of the Tom Clancy books I've read.

if anyones interested in jungle combat i got an idea here ive been working on and i think its pretty good.
i was thinking about jungle combat and more armies into PR when i had an idea it will probably not be able into the mod but hell ill tell you anway. and yeah there is a sort of jungle combat in bf2 but its alot like a wood as it is china, and i think the dense, humid jungles of south east asia would make more intresting gameplay.
A british regiment on a training exercise in Brunei is attacked by pro-communist guerillas trying to overthrow the sultan. The british government accuses China of supporting and supplying the terrorists and using propaganda in order to rid brunei of any british millitary presence before attempting to support a full scale commie revolution in malaysia and indonesia. two days later the sultan is assaniated and the guerillas declare brunei a socialist state and "invite" the chinese millitary to help ensure the regimes surviaval, by the next morning the might of the chinese army is mounting on the malaysian border. Britain instantly declares war on all chinese forces in brunei, australia quickly allies itself with the british. in response china invades malaysia and pushes through to borneo bringing the united states into the war on the brits side. a large coalition force led by the british attempt a beach landing on the coast of sarawak meeting heavy chinese defenses. i think this would be a good idea with loadsa close combat jungle fighting and amphibious ops as well as alot stuff with helis. and u could bring the aussies and maybe some asian armies as well. if any of u have other ideas post them as well

i liked bfv and still play it!:') but the reason bfv failed was the gameplay not the theatre i am desperate to see the jungle on a decent engine. thats why i posted my storyline idea.

Another situation could be Taiwan claiming indepence and China forcibly attempts to reunite/annex the island. As US forces are divided between Iraq, Afghanistan several lesser deployments and the emerging conflict in the Straits of Taiwan, North Korea sees an oppurtunity. C4I facilities and civilian airports south of the 38th parallel are sabotaged by infiltrators. Possibly inserted by minisubs. COSCO container ships supposedly waiting at Pusan to transport a variety of consumer goods unload various DPRK armored vehicles with converted Chinese car carriers bringing in heavier armor from the North.

BFV was alright but as tom pointed out, it couldve used more work. anyway tom i like your idea for south east asia and medicoris id like to hear your idea as well as get some opinion from the devs if what were doing is a waste of time or something that could help out the mod in any way.

i think we have a pretty good one going right now, i tried to set up an explanation for the war as a whole but i think its a little shaky. really i think that this is another good way to get ideas flowing.

thing is we gotta know what everbody wants not just what WE want. some people would rather see a korea storyline, id like to see south east asia maybe we can combine a jungle war with a koren scenario.

im sure it can be tied in, especially if this is going to be a sort of WWIII, thats why i went with china moving east into japan, an they could go south from there. i was reading this thing in national geographic about nuclear weapons since the use of the a bomb over japan and theres a map that shows locations of places that are able to create nuclear weapons usable material, there are plants in both japan and taiwan that china could go after, as well as vietnam if we wanted to go further south and east, after that china could become the new empire by invading islands in order to put a buffer between themselves and austrailia where allied troops could stage counter attacks. the possibilities are endless.

when tom#13 said jungle war my eyes lit up. I'd love the idea of fighting in a jungle environment, but if at all possible some urban fighting also somewhere in the story, with lots of civilians and vehicles (i.e the old car from Desert Combat with the bomb in the trunk). Doesn't necessarily need a bomb in it, just something to hide behind if you are pinned down by fire.

I would love to see this mod (which I had been assuming it was), based on the Gulf Wars I and II (Iraq) timeframe. The game itself seems loosely based on present day... with maybe a few years ahead to compensate for the Chinese involvement.

But, everything in the game thus far and in this mod seem to be based upon the present day timeframe... I sure hope that sticks. I'm not personally much impressed with these Wild West, and Mech Warrior mods coming out. Seems like a waste for such a good system and a way to at least give some honor to the men and women over there.

as i said id really like to see it focus almost entirely on Iraq/Afghan and ditch the chinesse all together but i realise this isnt the most popular opinion

it's quite easy to include china in this conflict... take splinter cell chaos theory's story for example...

it could be a multi era mod, with some battles like Tora Bora and Fallujah and such, and then have a really really good storyline to bridge the gap to the current situation...

i dont object to having historically themed maps id love to see '42 and DC maps ported over to this mod but i dont with making the mod span that time period id like for it to be from 2001-present day, if i can teach myself to map id like to make alot of Iraq/Afghan maps

i think seeing a mogidishu map would be pretty cool also (reading BHD again) it would be a great urban and CQC map.
