This may help any discussions-

Highlighted in red may be maps that could use discussion: Was present in vote, but for various reasons that I don't know, people never wanted to play

Thanks, that is some excellent data, but it would need context of what maps were in a vote together.

Dropped the combos in the same link- may not be as useful not knowing which option won, probably have the data, just haven't thought how to extract it out.

Edit: nvm, was easy to parse out, added
Edit: too many rows for that web app, the mapvote combos with vote count is here: https://bin.veracry.pt/?e747c5f4bb77a7a ... ZuH8isyfzQ

Thank you so much for compiling that, but I am unable to view it, it stops loading at 50% for me.

I copied it to google sheets
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... sp=sharing

So I keep seeing votes where its one 4km versus two 2kms and you can guess which wins every time, but apparently Nuijamaa is least voted for. Though this is just 5 months in 2020?

Note, I updated the data with another link above, another 20,000 rows. But I bet what you saw in google sheets will hold true. Maybe if time allows, someone can collab on a !mvote 2k !mvote 4k function (maps random within that filter). Would be hard to expect the general pop to remember what is 2k/4k

First 2 sheets is all data from 2020-07 to present. Ignore 3rd and 4th worksheet. See the pastebin in a separate message instead for mapvote combos

I'd also love to see a rotation of 10-15 maps. We are spoiled for choice, and as a result of it we always choose the ones we know! People have worked hard on these maps and unfortunately some almost never get played.

yep, playing same maps over and over again is not fun anymore, especially when we have so much choice - letting it to be voted is a no-go, server would not die just because it's something else than fallujah or khami, actually it would be more interesting for a whole

Or just pick maps without a vote, ez. We always complain that some maps are underplayed, but then we make votes and no one actually picks these xD

Just my humble, outsider opinion.

Make partially random map selections with a set of "core" maps, with regular "updates" in relatively short intervals, that would be doable with your team's time frames and workloads.

Maybe even just for a month.

Thats the problem, admins post a set of 3 maps.

Very limited.

People usually only have time to play a round or two on a non-weekend, so it is kind of a desperate thing to vote on a map.

You have limited time...

Do you vote on the map that you know and see regularly?

Or do you vote on the map/game mode you've only played once, months ago?

Would you rather have maps that forced down your throat vote or no vote that you probably won't enjoy due to balance/limited time issues (rather spend time doing something else than playing a map that you might not enjoy).

Or would you rather play the same maps that you know you'll enjoy atleast 60% of the time regardless of balance.

It's like real life. Would you rather try food that other people have strong dislikes against or would you rather get something you are accustomed to.

Basic risk assessment will always play a role in mapvotes and you might not even realise it..

Some of my best moments in PR have been on maps I would never vote for, hell I wouldn't even put them in a vote. I understand OP and I understand the other side, and I do agree that map diversity needs to be worked on.

On one hand I like popular maps like Khamisiyah etc and if one of them is in a vote, I would vote for it. But on the other hand, and I've only come to realize that now when I have a really limited time to play PR unlike uni years when it was PR 24/7, is that popular maps put me off.

If I play only a few hours of PR per week, I really, really do not want to play the same map all the time. It feels like one long game and I don't know if it's just me, but seeing Khamisiyah on in PRSPY everytime I want to start up PR actually makes me not play. And yet, if I was in-game the previous round, I would be one of those that voted for Khamisiyah.

I guess it would be a good idea to test something like a semi-controlled vote where a script would make a preset of X maps for the day or week and those would be the only maps that can be included in a vote for the decided time frame.

So the gist of this thread is "we'd like to play maps we don't want to play"?

No.

That's not a "no" on whether or not it's doable, it's a no on the idea.

Just remove mapvoting.

If server admins actually would put in some work they could set a 5-7 maps for each weeknight and then you pick what day and what server you want to play on. EZ

No, it's "We want to play maps that are not played often. Those maps are not played often because people are not familiar with them because they are not played often. Almost every map in PR was designed well and can offer great gameplay moments, and it is a disservice to the map creators and players of this game that some maps are hardly ever played."

Yeah, seems like the maps that are played most often are maps with heavy assets, at least when it comes to maps from votes

the vote would be like one desert and two city maps or a forest map and two city maps in the vote and the desert and forest map with all the assets would win every time and would be put in a vote that's already played 3 or 4 rounds ago
