Ok, here you are, simple:
A flare will burn your skin and cook your organs/fat if it contacts you when it has been ignited. These things burn at extremely high temperatures which explains why they get so bright so quickly.
And I thought this thread was about a/c flares

. I was gonna suggest that you make Infra-Red and Radar dependent flares, but not for here.

He's been around the forums longer then you he just doesn't post.. *check post date *.* *
Me be nice? Now that's an oxymoron.
Sorry if I offended you Wipeout, I seriously didn't know that you could kill someone with a flare. My military history is based solely on WWII, and I never even took time to check out how those little bright thingys worked...

Wouldn't the Flare just be used as AA. I mean, if you hit a chopper with a flare....... Fireworks

Flares wouldn't embed themselves in an aircraft, because there metallic. Sorry;
Nah ya didn't offend me.. WW2 to now isn't a major difference, WWII gives you the basics of warfare.. Mostly tank and air combat, from then on it's just new technology, which is easy enough to learn. i was in the same boat as you when I first played PR and peered onto these forums.. Partly why it took me 3 months to register to the forums.

You'd think that wouldn't you, but I doubt that would happen, unless you managed to hit a fuel line or tank. Either way, it'd be extremely lucky to hit one of them.

Maybe if you got a headshot the guy would see white? Forever? Until he dies?
As for shooting helicopters, I wonder if you could blind the pilot with smoke? hehe sucker

Ok, I think we've worked out that flare guns would be a no. But when night maps come in what about trip flares for defense, ambushes etc???

I'm sure if enough people wanted them then they'd be put in. I can also see the practical use to flares, as I'm sure the far more talented DEVs can.

If your going to use flares in that way.... Then you could make them a commander option..

They could be used for dresignating targets for air strikes. Throw one on top of a building and a Cobra gunner picks it up on his HUD.

The enemy would see it and run away anyways. and the green smoke is suppose to be used to mark friendlies and we don't do it so it would be a waste of time to model and put in the game.

i actually think that a plane or helo should have a set number of flares...would definatly limit how they use them and when they use them and might also counterbalance the LOOONG lockon times for sa7's
edit: not the flares i was thinkin of... gg for not reading first post :/

wow way to be off topic.. But to be on your topic.. Uhm no it's easy to hit things with AA.. It's hell of easy to avoid flares when firing an SA-7 just need to know how to.. I could spend half a page explaining it but it's 11:30 and I feel like some CSS>

Flares/Looms (fired from M203 which look cool as they slowly hover down)/Trip Flares would be cool, but i have yet to play a night map on any server for this mod. If more or any night maps are made, then they would deffinately be a good idea if possible. Imagine Mao Valley at night, a squad moving in thinking no one sees them, then pop. A trip flare goes off and you know exactly where someone is. Gun fire comes raining down on that position

More night maps are on the way.. That's not a priority though.. Mao would suck at night.. I want to see OGT at night.. *beats rhino over the face with a baseball bat* Right rhino?

I think flares would be really cool to have as a tool in the officer kit. SL with officer kit could shoot it high up in the air and it could give off a very visible poof of colored smoke or something other.
As well as showing in the game, it could also show as a little point on the map for ALL team members as if it's like an SOS or attack/defend here. It could motivate them to move there, especially if they have no idea where to go.
I think it would catch on as a "hot spot" locator, and if a big firefight clash starts someone could shoot the flare up and alert his team members to come join.

Well, i for one was thinking that the spec op pistol's flash light could be made to work. If i remember right(which i probly dont), in that MOD where you race chinoowigs(USMC dune buggies) which have boosters and minguns onboard, the Viechles had headlights. Possible to do the same with the pistol?(probly not, just a suggestion)
...mongol...

Mao at night would be mass confusion.... tall grass and low light. It would be awesome in my opinion. Don't quite under stand how you can say one jungle map would be cool yet the other would suck wipeout. Actually if all maps had the option for night would be cool.
