You may not like the 24/7 Al Basrah, but there are atleast 50+ people that seem to like it and play on the server. Just goes to show, something you hate other people will like. The server settings you posted you may like but other people may hate.Determined wrote:My rant about the TG server has moved me. I get on to play PR about 5 minutes ago and here is the list of the top servers on my browser....
1) =CDU=
I have a great ping to it..... but they noobed PR by implementing shorter spawn times. Can't play there.
2) Tactical Gamer
Well they have a horrible auto kick feature that all non paying members are subject too. Also a noobish setting that does not auto switch you teams every round. Can't play there.
3) [EU] FR teamplay blah blah blah
Probably a good server but I am pining 150 to it and I want a better gaming experience tonight. Can't play there.
4) [OSF] War in the Woods
Great settings, runs well. Whoops.... its been noobed down because friendly fire is off. Can't play there.
5) Devfile 24/7 Al Basrah
Well its Devfile 24/7. I want some variety. Can't play there.
6) PR .509 22nd MEU
Good settings it seems. Oh wait no VIOP?!? Are you kidding me? Can't play there.
7) Muttrah City private ranked
Um 24/7 of one of the worst balanced maps? Can't play there.
8 ) [click] 21
I'm pinging around 200 to this server. Can't play there.
Below the top 8 most of the servers only have 16 or fewer people in them.
Now why can't one server get it right?
Here is how every server should be set up as.
1)For each map you should play either 1 round, or 2 rounds. In PR rounds usually last long enough that 1 round per map can be acceptable.
2)After the end of each round players should be autoswitched so that you don't get sick of constantly playing US, or whatever.
3)Squads should be held over from round to round. It makes no sense why you should have to recreate your squad each round.
4)Map rotations should include nearly all PR maps except extracts. Extract maps are only fun on servers running smaller numbers of players.
5)If your server does have reserved slots, it should not tell people trying to load in that they are banned. Pure idiocy.
6)In the case that a server wants to make room for a fellow member, players that are afk, not in squads, or have the lowest score should be kicked first. Why on Earth you would kick a squad leader who is leading the #1 squad close to the end of a round is beyond me. Also players should not be kicked when there are 10 open slots.
7)Friendly Fire should be on.
You absolutely must have VOIP
9)A server that anyone in the US can get a ping of 100 or less to.
You run that server and I will personally give you no less than $25 a month out of my pocket to you. I'm sure there are at least... AT LEAST 20 or more people that would do the same because they feel the same way.

People can like friendly fire off, and shorter spawn times.... but I want to play Project Reality. Not some bastardized version of it. Not everyone has good taste. I realize that. 24/7 servers are nice, but my point was that there is not one single good, well rounded server. Each one out there comes with a snag, or a price. No thanks.Desertfox wrote:You may not like the 24/7 Al Basrah, but there are atleast 50+ people that seem to like it and play on the server. Well Snow and I are looking into making it happen. I will put my money where my big stupid mouth is.

Yeah, I disagree with modifying the game play of PR.
The way I see it, the mod is a creation of the DEV team and as such is being "licensed" to servers to run. It's not open source, or public domain. It should be a requirement that it run to PR specifications so it plays as intended.
Personally, I feel like it's a bit disrespectful to undo even an once of the hard work, labored time, and personal sacrifices the DEVs have made to bring this mod to life, and keep it living.
It turns project reality into project vanilla.
It gives a bad impression to people who just downloaded the mod and expected to see a certain kind of game play that Project Reality advertises. With the way people are changing the settings, new players just won't get the right impression.

Determined,
[TF21] Battlefield Cooperative passes every one of your criteria except that the squads have to be created every round. I think this is a hard coded implementation of DICE and cannot be changed as far as I know.
1. One Round per Map
2. Autoswitched after every round
3. AFAIK can't make it so squads are held over after autoswitch
4. Nearly every map is on the server except extraction
5. We don't have reserved slots and I admin the admins
6. If I see someone did something like that they would no longer have admin.
7. FF is on.. no doubt
8. Our VOIP is running on an external server so its never been down or bugged.
9. I live in Bethesda, MD and you're only 35 minutes away. I get a low ping so you should too. The server is in St. Louis, MO.
Any questions?
Best Regards,
M.J.Patterson

The squad thing is something I've seen on some servers, but that is not a big issue. There is something wrong with your server and I can't remember what. I think the last time I visited you guys didn't have switching after every round. As in switching sides. I could be wrong. Maybe I'm getting your server comfused with another.M.J.Patterson wrote:Determined,

I know a lot of these things seem silly, but it makes a difference. I mean having to play the same faction every round gets boring. Boring enough that people will leave the server or commit the ultimate sin of teamswitching. lol

Being consistant is an elusive thing. I will start looking out for your server though. I don't mind hopping in one just to get it started. We do it to the PIT server just because it has relatively good settings. Though I think they did something a little screwy with the spawn times.
