Safety on guns

I don't really see a need for safety. Probably never killed a teammate because I accidentally pressed the mouse button. Someone already posted that quote from black hawk down, and it's as true as it gets. Your finger if your ultimate safety. And why do you have your gun pointing at teammates anyway?

how often do you do that in a game? Maybe like.. well less than 10 times in a round? Anyway, thats not the point. I've never managed to fire my weapon when adjusting my hand, but if it happens you can always just aim at something else when adjusting the hand. As I already said before, you shouldn't be pointing the gun at your friends in the 1st place.El_Vikingo wrote:I though about safety aswell.
What about when your adjusting your hand.

Safety is a horrible idea. In reality you can easily feel what position the selector switch is in, it's nearly impossible for a trained individual to accidentally put his weapon on safe. In BF2 you have to cycle through all your firing options to get the one you want, making it that much more likely that you'll accidentally put your gun on safe when you're trying to switch between A and 1 or 3 and 1.
If you want realism learn the video game equivalent of trigger discipline, and keep your finger off Mouse1 unless you want to shoot.

Having a safety would be pretty nice, but it would be underused, too. I'd also like to get a "no weapon" weapon, because it's a bit odd running around the base aiming a pistol at everyone as a pilot, while waiting for the helicopter.Blackhawk down wrote:You say "this" is your safety, soldier? Well this is my boot, and with sufficient application of force it WILL fit up your ***!

well it's realistic. But the way it would be in the game is not very realistic. Well never used a gun with multiple fire modes, but I think that you don't have to switch them in order. (like from safe you can only go to semi, from semi only to auto and from auto only to safe) So more than anything it would just make it slower to switch the fire modes.Desertfox wrote:I find this thread kind of funny in a way, you guys are all bashing the idea of a safety when its realistic!.
Would it be possible to make a safety toggle button, so that you press it once and safety is on, and press it again to turn safety off? This way players could enable safety when they want to and it wouldn't affect changing between semi and auto/burst. (again wouldn't be 100% realistic, but atleast it wouldn't bother the guys who keep their finger as their safety, and would enable the safety feature for those who want to use it)
