type 2 : they have a clue but dont care shit, they have no intresset to learn from you or any other, they dont lissen for shit, there lonewolf and want sniper rifle as fast as possible (We the veteran's hate these)

And in the long term the problem is that it gets very frustrating to experience that second group (type 2) of newbies/noobs over and over.

justsomenewb, maybe this thread you made, reflects that you your self as a player is serious about how other players should be treated and maybe this thread also reflects that you have a need to explain your own frustration too?

Maybe you are a serious player?

Guess that I’m trying to say that you just maybe could turn out to become one of those upcoming serious veteran players in a patch or two from now, participating in the community comments on the noobs in 0.8?

Cause already now u seem to take things seriuos. (only guessing)
---

I think that most of the veterans getting really frustrated about this problem is some of the coolest players also, cause they can see the tactical potential of this game, and are maybe even able to use some of the in game experience in other parts of their live. (The real life, traditionally speaking.)

But! Although this maybe is some of the explenation for the frustration-making on the forum, its still no excuse for flaming new players joining either the community or the game.

And yes, you’re right, we have all been noobs. Maybe we are still a kind of noobs, in term of how to treat new players?

Regards/cheers

Michael (A serious player...mostly  )

Define irony. A bunch of guys playing PR year after year. A game teaching initiative as the prime mover.
However, in regard to EA, these guys never took the initiative.

I remember a time back in nilla when some guy was getting pissed because we wernt doing what he told us(as expected from a nilla match). His arguement was
"You guys are all enlisted ranks, you HAVE to listen to me."

"Look, this game is deceptive. Its actualy nothing to do with the military. it just makes references to it."

"OMG, STFU. Your only a SGT. I dont even have to listen to you!"

"Hey, calm down mate. This is a F**king computer game" *
Server warning, bad lang*

"STFU N00B, your not even 1st SGT!"

"I'v been playing this game for a week...."

"STFU, thats an order!"
Ah, BF2. The never ending comady

Justsomenewb, can you give us an example maybe of where we're hating on new players? It's important to realize that there's a difference between a "new player" and a "smacktard". See "Proper Smacktard Management" for more information on smacktards.

The point is this is a game and the vast majority of players are not going to take it as seriously as the veterans do. They will not read the manual even if they know about it, they don't care about knowing how to do everything right, they just want to get in and have fun. The people that really love and enjoy this game need to step up and share that experience with the clueless, not shun them off as worthless morons.

It is a game. Games, however, have rules. Some games have more rules than other games.
This game was created to eliminate certain aspects of the original and add new aspects.
If those elements appeal to you, WELCOME !, if they don't that's just too bad.
It's too bad that you need to read a manual before playing because the game is far more complex than the original version.
You say you are a newb so use the responses in this thread as an example of what the "vets" see.
10 people have said mostly the same thing to you, pretty monotonous right ?

Well now think about playing the game and hearing the same question, 20-30 times per game 10 games a day 7 days a week.

You might get a little testy with people if that were the case and moreover you might even find yourself lacking patience with those who would ***** and complain, ingame, about the features of the game.

If I see the words" how do you ..." in the game chat I will always answer with the squad instructions and press T and all that but if you **** on the game I really like then I will instantly become abusive and I will not apologize for that.

Welcome to PR! Haha

Lots of players are noob tolerant, many are not. We don't want to see bunny hoppers, nade spammers, wreckless and stupid driving of APCs, tanks, choppers and other team assets.

We don't want people to join our squad just to get the sniper kit and then go out and try to capture every single flag, one by one, with the "mob"

So excuse us if we don't have much patience.

Read the PR wiki then join a squad.

If/When you get good, and you get noob tubers giving away your position, shooting when he was told to hold fire, crashing a full blackhawk into another full blackhawk, and such, you'd be pissed off too.

This isn't suppose to be a mainstream mod, although that PC IGN article sort of made it that way. Its a Realism mod for the die hard.

Just my two cents.

Just to add something about the elite nature of the long time players.
It is an open club, this elite group.
If you pay attention and follow orders you will be elite in a week or two.
There is nothing wrong with having high standards for gameplay and if those standards don't meet with the approval of the general public that's simply too bad.

There are some people that simply cannot and should not be tolerated... like that *** who joined my armor squad and grabbed an M1 and just drove off by himself. Then when I yelled at him to get back to the base (so we could get a bigger crew in it), he started swearing at me.

How about a public flogging for the smacktards ?
Or even better ...stocks right at the main flag.
If someone acts up the Admin can lock them in the stocks for 2min and everyone can walk past and ridicule them.

It´s up to server admins to update/confirm a global PR banlist. The popular servers needs more admins online and awake to catch the smacktards.

I dont think its so much people hate new people that dont know the correct ways to go about things, its that they hate the new people that just jump on team kill for a cobra and stuff of that sort. I dont know of a community that is more welcoming to new people..... look at all of the training videos and write ups created for PR.

I don't think we were all noobs at one time. We lost our noob status playing vanilla and our playing style was already suited to the gameplay of PR. I first tryed out PR at 0.2 release and thought it was great, but knew I needed to improve before I could really get into it. So I carried on playing BF2v for another 6 months until I was getting bored and annoyed by it, then moved to PR where I didn't feel like a noob at all. Thats the issue with these people you find on the servers now, even if they read the manual they still won't play how you want them to play as they clearly haven't even learned how to play vanilla properly, and they should just go back there or another MOD and leave PR to the elitist.

all we ask for is teamplay I.E dont fire off rounds when we are trying to move unoticed even though we have asked for silence, this suprisingly enough isnt commanding people(you needent have joined a squad if you werent wanting teamwork)its cooperation

also we dont mind people who are new, but when you are continualy asking silly questions which were most probably added in the web site you downloaded it from(one exception is torrents)

we like players which have patience and respect youve got to understand how long the DEVS have spent on this mod, you will notice a lot of people like abushes(specialy basrah ;) ) this will require placing an bomb on a location and waiting for something to come, YES WAITING, if you give away their position after theyve waited for a long time then people generally get ANGRY.

also when it is named Project Reality then people will want the command of a real person in the forces, so if some one says "stop i want a lift" you should have the courteusy and generousity to do so, not run away.

we are moving slowly toward the point where the squad leader and commander have a more impacted role in the game, so stick with them you live, leave them you die, so co-operation is needed when your with the squad leader.

basicly a new person runs away and does their own thing, we want some one who stays and helps out(you need more than enough IQ to cope with looking at what kit your squad needs, NOT WHAT YOU NEED)

if you do that then you wont even be noticed as a N00B

i checked the WIKI the first time i came on and nobody even noticed i was new because i didnt ask questions about how to get kits(although back in 0.4 we didnt have to, but i was new to 0.5 like every one else).

hope you have a nice time and READ THE WIKI/GUIDE it will help

PR Mod is somewhat more involved than VBF2 when it comes to the complexity of play,

That said, despite the increase of the amount of players since the latest release, this has not been accompanied by an increase in the amount of stupid questions, at least in my experience on popular servers.

If this was not the case, ingame chat would be constantly spammed by 'OMFG HELOS ARE F*CKED', 'CANT GET IN THE HORSEF*CKING APC', 'THEYVE NERFED THE FU*XORING TANK, CANT TURN THE TURRET FOR SHI*' and it isnt.

It seems the majority of new peeps have read the guide, are aware of the changes and act accordingly (aww, look at their little faces, its almost like they understand ;) )

This board seems to err on the side of common sense, and will doubtless seem unfair to those found lacking. That said, doesnt hurt to show newbies the way while being friendly, its a game after all :)

I started playing over a year ago now.

Technically, I never started out as a noob. I used to be a noob at Bf2v, then joined a clan and used teamwork. When the first releases of PR came out, the gameplay was more or less the same as BF2v.

Now though, much of that has changed. I don't mind newcomers, as they join my squad use the mic and make an effort.

Then you have the noobs. I'm not trying to offend anyone, but I have seen things that make me think that, that so and so has "funny or mental retardation!".

That being said, from what I hear, US servers are full of these players.

I don't mind newbies at all. If, that is, they make an effort to try adjust to the mod and not have the mod adjust to them. I've been in squads with very sincere and great players on their first round and they are really into it. I have been in other squads where new players b*tch and moan about things and don't listen to orders from SL. Read the FAQ part of the guide is the best advice for any new player, it only takes a few minutes and it is quite interesting.

PR is game of Realism and to bring as much realism to the game as possible and it is annoying when you are in a squad and you want the whole squad to move to point 'A' and they dont go. It has to be a team effort or you lose.
I like newbies but hate noobs

If you like the arcade stuff, go and play vanilla or POE

I think the reason people don't read the wiki is because they think it's just a mod that changes some models and very little else, but in PR the whole gameplay is changed, from the weapon physics to the game modes.
I started playing Battlefield 2 (vanilla) like 4 weeks ago. I'd heard about Project Reality just before I got the game. A week after I'd bought the game I remembered the mod. After installing the it, I quickly hopped onto the first server with a good ping and reasonable amount of players to see what this was all about. After the first 2 rounds (during which I played as infantry as it was apparently the simplest way of making myself useful), seeing how different the gameplay was by comparison to vanilla, I started reading the guide and then watched the training videos.
It's not like the dumber new players don't want to check out the guide, they just think they don't need it.
