I personally really like the AP kit with the iron sights and binocs vs the scoped rifle. I can take out more people at range and in CQC with the AP then with the scope. I can spot some one farther away with the binocs then switch to the gun and put 2-5 rounds into them for the kill. Plus once you get up close and personal you dont have the tunnel vision of the scope and disorientation of going into the zoom mode at close range. But hey thats just me.
I don't feel the need for an ACOG on all the riflemen kits, an Aim Point sight would be fine or just add the binocs to the kit. I know the AP is gone but the binocs are so usefull I'll just use the kit that they get switched to more often.

'[R-DEV wrote:eggman']Kits and Classes are.. changed
Any chance of a hint or some info on how. Becuase normaly, by now we are overwelmed with 0.* change lists and such.
The L-AT is clearly not going to be on the standard list but will they/you have created a new kit...?
I am guessing new G3 models are on their way in 0.6, but question is, how many - just ironsited ones and scopes but no GL...hmmm?
But any news on the Chinese GL and the UK GL assult rifles, i am DAMN sure i have seen pics of the chinese one, looking almost complete but nothing the on the SA80/GL?

Related to kits, kind of. Is it possible to make it so that squad members cant pick up a "officers" kit from the ground?
It doesn't happen often, but once in a while someone will pick up my officers kit (usually when a crowd of people is requesting from the back of the APC), and than I cant request another one until I suicide and respawn and wait some more.
Not a big problem but if a solution is simple.....

I want to minimise the length of time I need to listen to the whining about the changes so will wait until open beta is imminent

Here's a good read on why that is false.

There's a guy on the Hostile Intent (a HL mod) forums who's basic load entails...
Right now I am SDM and grenadier, so I have 7 m4 mags, I think 6 assorted 40mm grenades, 4 m14 magazines, my first aid pouch, my camelback, my side SAPI plates, and usually either the SSE bag or the demo bag. I think that's everything on my vest.
I only take my m14 out of the stryker if we are doing highside security or dealing with lots of wide open ground. The M4 with M203 is still my primary weapon.
(If they gave me one of the new highspeed M14 stocks I've seen around with some other units and an ACOG instead of the Leopuld 10x thats on mine, I would carry it out a lot more.)
Note that he carries 4 m14 magazines on him, and that's not even when he's carrying the gun itself. What do we get in game as SDM? 2 magazines? Should definitely be upped. No reason why the sniper should have 4x as many magazines as the SDM, that makes no logical sense.

7.62 mm guns are just too heavy. A lot more stopping power, but just too heavy. Round capacity is typically limited to 20. While 5.56mm rounds can be quite a lot.

round capcity is usually 30...AK-47, M14. g3 is only one i know of thats only has 20 rounds its also the only one i know of that fires a full rifle round though aswell.

7.62x51mm "battle rifles" like the FN FAL, G3 and M14 usually have 20 round magazines (though there are 30 round magazines for the FAL, these are usually restricted to SAW versions of the weapon like the FALO)
7.62x39mm Assault rifles, such as the AKM and Vz.58 have 30 round magazines.
This is due to a difference in combat doctrine. The assualt rifles are designed to be fired on full auto at short range, making having a larger magazine better. The battle rifles are designed to be used from a longer range and fired in semi automatic mode, so the shorter magazines that provide better balance and are make it easier to fire from a prone position are beneficial.

this might be a rumor, but i had heard that the larger the charge behind the round, the faster it'll go so it just passes through, leaving a smaller wound. Slower the bullet, larger the wound?
there was also an interview on PBS some years ago with a WWII vet who had been pumped with like 7-12 rounds from an STG and it didn't kill him. He said he was something like 10 feet away and that the rounds miraculously didn't hit any lethal spots and that because he was so close and the charge and size (almost 8mm) was so large that it just passed through instead of tearing through or fragmenting inside his body.
