What about that lever thing on the right side of an M16 that you have to push in, does the AK have that ? or is the rocking motion you mentioned the same thing ?
I prefer it if my team doesn't pick up enemy weapons because it is easier to locate enemies by sound.

No, the AK dosent have a foreward assist, but you shouldnt actually need to use that unless something goes wrong, if I remember correctly. It is (as far as i can remember) used for forcing a round into the chamber when it dosent want to go. And as long as everything is working properly, it shouldnt need to be used.

And anyway, by bashing the M16 out of frustration when it dosent work will probubly find it anyway.

How about this Des: I have never been formally trained by any military, and I can assure you that I can reload both an M16 and an AK47 in *less* than 5 seconds.

no, any person with a brain knows how to shoot/ reload a m16 and a ak47 (or at least thats my opinion)

TBH, I doubt he ever got in a position to effectively use that weapon, or at least in the way that it's intended for use.

I've noticed in games as well a penchant for members of one team to use the weapons of the other. I think that it's got something to do with dominance, though IRL, there are clear benefits to using lower ROF weapons with higher battlefield endurance in the middle of the desert. I doubt in Zarqawis case it was anything more than a need to feel dominant. What better way than to use a captured weapon of the enemy?

I'm supposing it depends on how green the person is.

the M-16 is a widely used terrorist weapon, not NEARLY as used as the AK47 obviously, but alot of people use it. Pirates in Indonesia for example.

Nah, can't prove it, but here's a written try: Hit mag release (usually located around the mag well), remove mag, insert new mag, pull charging handle back to be sure you have a round chambered, check safety.

It might take a first time user a few seconds to locate the mag release and figure out the safety, though...

You are correct sir, the forward assist was added in the A1 model of the M16 and helps assure that the bolt is all the way forward "in battery" to fire. It was added after complaints that the gun would not fully lock up if there was any fouling or dirt in the chamber. It is not needed in the AK family because the charging handle is part of the bolt (as is the case with the M-14), you can hit that to insure the gun is in battery. The M-16 has a floating charging handle that does not move (and therefore can't injure you) when shooting.

We were taught that anytime you load the gun you give the forward assist a whack to insure the gun was ready to fire. It becomes second nature after shooting a little while, though most of the time it is not needed.

Bought a mak-90 at a gun show and with out ever having touched an ak before and had very little trouble figuring out the loading and the safety lever. I even worked my way through most of the field striping process. (But I did double check afterwards with an online manual so it didn't explode on me or something )
