I think the pistol damage is sort of fine. However, the receiving end should feel it a tad more. When you get shot with a pistol and it hits your Kevlar. In PR, you don't notice. But in real life, I don't think you're going to be on your ball game when you just took 2 rounds into your Kevlar and he is still unloading rounds at you. But in PR, you don't even notice this and you quickly load him full of lead.
It would be cool if the pistol could jerk you around ever so slightly, and give you some shock or blur vision, that way if you do shoot first you have a chance.
But I do agree that they suck horribly against units without armor.

Basically, yeah.
Yet again, this is Dice/EA's fault.

well, actually I think that it wouldn't even hurt that much. Seriously, it's a tiny tiny piece of metal with a weight of something like 10 grams.
And you have enough protection to stop a 7.62mm bullet, maybe even multiple 7.62mm bullets.

Myth-The-Savage wrote:problem with 9mm ammo though is that it travels at like half the velocity of a rifle round and 1 third of that of a sniper rifle, they tend to shatter ceramic instead or punching through but being slowed significantly enough for the kevlar to stop the round, same principle when firing into water in real life, a 9mm round has about 10 times the penetration than a .50 cal sniper round when fired into water, its all down to speed and amount of deceleration, the higher velocity rounds tend to disintegrate
No offense, but I'm not sure that's true. AFAIK, ceramic can stop 3 or so AK rounds before shattering.
I find it pretty easy to get pistol kills. Just the other day, as a downed pilot I took out two MEC guys in a row with my pistol on Muttrah, in a firefight where everyone knew where the other guys were.
Possibly you're not aiming properly? IIRC, the USMC pistol places the bullet just above the post element of the sight.

9mm vs conventional military body armor...........no. Go for limb/head shots. This is where Arma lost a lot of respect from me. 1 9mm round takes down a US army rifleman.

The pistol isnt the problem, its the fact that you should have a Spotter with you, a spotter is usually carrying the standard issue rifle of whatever country they belong to, try that and see how you get on, its called teamwork, even snipers use it

i really wish someone would want to regularly spot for me! i'd love it!!
i can only imagine how difficult it would be for you guys to take into account blunt trauma in the game, this is a residual effect of the bullet hitting armour, and it hurts, lots, but it could be the difference between them lining up a shot on you or not, thats why i rekon they should be a little more powerful!, anyways im off out, gotta go dj, will check bak on the status and any new ideas anyone has had on a possible way to make it a little more realistic when i get home tonight!
have a good one guys!

blunt trauma could always be shown with the blurry "im wounded!" effect already implemented into the game, would give you the chance to take down your enemy.

I don't see how there would be that much blunt trauma though. It would be the same as putting the back of a pistol up to a ceramic plate on your body armor and firing. I doubt it would hurt all that much.

assuming you are moving towards the shooter at ~3mph the bullet would need enough momentum to roughly equal this and perhaps exceed it to knock you down. when fired this would cause the shooter to move backwards at around 3mph, ever seen the 'cricket' off MIB, it would look a little less dramatic but you get the idea. The damage done by a bullet is actually caused by its kinetic energy. (this is based off the laws of physics, BTW)
It doesn't have to force you back to knock you down, it could wind and disorientate you I'd imagine, especially with multiple hits.

The only problem is that it isnt a specific role to most people in the game. In addition, the big problem is you dont get any points for being a "Spotter". So the only way you would get a spotter is if you had a friend lol. Most people like points in this game and want to get first, or just not last lol. And if you have a stranger as a sniper, then you might not sacrifice time/last place to spot for him.

I find that a lot of mature players will spot for you if you agree to trade off with them. Personally I like being spotter, as you have to move very carefully and tactically (you *are* behind enemy lines while babysitting someone with little close range defensive ability afterall). I also like the self-reliance that's required. Need health? You'll have to stalk and kill an enemy medic. Same goes for ammo.

Give us the Desert Eagle! I don't care if it's not realistic! They're sexy

(and it would stop pistols being too weak complaints <.<)

No, the problem is that even if you hit someone in the head, it can still take up to 2 headshots in order to kill someone.

Pfff NOT!! They would totally have to be chrome Desert Eagles to be realistic
I am just going from memory here so don't quote me. There were complaints from Iraq from US soldiers using the 9mm pistols on un-armored people not being able to effectively stop people. Maybe someone with some police background could chime in? Im sure they would have much more data on handguns vs. different targets?
