I don't have problems finding a good, populated server any time I try to log in. Which I can't for another day, stupid work - I'm having withdrawel after 3 days without.
Treating new players like noobs could be keeping people away as well. I agree that PR players > nilla players, but to treat new players like tools is just wrong. As if the average PR vet is some highly trained military person, gimme a break. Be a little more inviting and accomodating to newer players and they'll stick. This is fact, I've seen it personally several times. Someone gets railed on for doing something stupid they didn't know was stupid, and they never log in again. Conversely, someone gets told what's what and gets a "don't worry about it, we've all been there", the next day they're running off to buy a mic to play more PR with us.
Unless things have changed since last weekend, PR is doing just fine. Abandon the elitest attitudes and more players would play more often. When .6 comes out, the same people complaining about lack of players will be driving off all the new players because they aren't elite enough.

I think that the lack of fast roping is whats keeping the servers abandoned...

ummm.. to keep from getting beaten or banned.. I think that like some have said, PR has just begun. I look back on the first releases .1,.2 and such... and think Wow, its gone THIS far?!
Someone should put together a timeline video... showing the features of .1 PRMM all the way to the inclusion of the brits, destructible buildings, and now .6, etc... Wouldnt that be a neat project? but... we'd need old footage...

Sometimes when I see dev's in the server I feel like I just saw a celebrity....and then I fear for my life.
PR is doing fine, Ive noticed a few days where the number of populated servers is down, then a few where there was tons...
Numbers are down a bit right now I'm sure because so many people are playing with .6

The only issue I see with POE2 and Dcon is that they are to Alike to VBF2...I played them both a lot..I really enjoyed both of them. But I don't feel VERY drawn to them. On the other hand PR is PROJECT FVCKING REALITY!!! if I want to go play POE2 and I don't see any servers I like...I don't waste my time. If I want to play PR I JOIN an empty server to get it started because PR WTFPWNS!
You see, mods like Dcon and POE2 are awesome! But PR>Both of them.

Heh, I saw IronTaxi in the BigD Australia server the other day, I felt like I was in the presence of royalty!Vicktor Vauhn wrote: Sometimes when I see dev's in the server I feel like I just saw a celebrity....and then I fear for my life.
But yeah, I played PoE2, and while it was a good game, it just wasn't different enough. I don't think any of the mods have changed the game as much as PR has, and that's what (I think) has kept people playing, the fact that it feels like an entire new game.
I also think that another huge reason people stick around is because of the community. You need to join a squad and use teamwork to compete, so you really get to know the players.
I still remember some people from Vanilla, but I never got to know them. I remember a guy called {AU} TossedSalad, because he was a tank whore. But in PR, I remember people based on things like teamwork, attitude, and VOIPeyness
Help Project Reality in Australia, join the bigD community!

What helped this mod have so many players, even tho its reality oriented, is the fact that people start out with the simpler and arcade gameplay which is vBF2 and then happen to try out PR.'[R-DEV wrote:eggman']...
PR is fortunate in that we never wanted to be "popular" or mainstream. How many people really want to play a BF2 franchise derivative where you die in 1 shot? It's an arcade game with huge potential from a teamwork perspective and limited potential from a realism perspective. The core audience buying BF2 is not really interested in realism & only mildly interested in teamwork.
I only ever wanted to have good quality game play available 24/7. I don't care if that is one server or 500.
PR will be around as long as people enoy playing it. From a game play perspective I honestly think that we are *just* now finding the capabilities in the team and the engine that allow us to do combined arms without losing the commitment to realism & teamplay.
They discover that it CAN be enjoyable to have a hard time, to have to think, to depend on others ... in short to grow up.
Most people tend to perceive reality games as too hard and dull, which is in a way true considering the publics shorter attention span evolution. But thats mostly only true because the different medias find it easier to make a buck by appealing with effortless joy.
So in the end I don't believe PR is such a niche product in its potential, as people will always have a much better long lasting time through reward from effort then a quick fix. Its just that society tends to not remind us much of that "reality" so people ignore it.
So high praise for PR for reminding us how much effort is rewarding !
(oh, as well as patience ... 0.6 ....

Don't need to argue about the name I goofed, obviously it is not a mini mod at this point and it was not my intention to insinuate that. I realize this is a niche mod and a large userbase isn't the number one goal. What I was really trying to get out of the thread was to find out the viability of the PR developers talking with the USI developers about combining. USI had some great models and sounds. A lot of the material they have added to the game could fit into the "reality" gameplay that PR has. The Vanilla tanks/humvee's and other armor suck ***. When I get into the M1A1 in USI and hear the tank startup I felt like I was driving a tank. If you added the vehicle position coding PR put into the vanilla tank with that tank, it would be awesome. I'm not saying that PR sacrifices its gameplay toward realismn, more that you talk to USI about bringing over the models/sounds for armor and air assets over into PR where the fruits of their hard labor can be enjoyed. The last USI release for whatever reason died out after not a long period and the mod was honestly really good, it just needed the gameplay of PR. My suggestion was never to change PR, more to adapt the talented modelers and skinners of USI into PR's team. At this point they have nothing to lose, I realize they are close to a release, but if the same thing happens, I think they should really re-think the idea of joining PR. At least then the fruits of their labor can be enjoyed by a consistent and continuing playerbase.

paragraf is ur freind
Well it's not up to some stranger to decide that USI modders, whos goals are different from PR's, to join each other. They both belong to BSS, what more can you ask for, they can share their work between themselves!

I think you were looking for the "Condescending Grammar Correcting Jackass" section, we are in the "Suggestions" section. Last I checked I was not dictating anything.
