rhino dont take this the wrong way, but what if the new maps that arent getting played much, could get subbed out for the classics that are still really good? like Steel Thunder and Mao?
Steel Thunder is one of the best right now for woodland Armor and Infantry cohesion work, and mao is just one of those maps where half the players think about yelling in voip "CHARLIE IN THE WIRE!" when they spot a chinese.

Any map where it was routine to see EVERYONE (except for the snipersnillazsuck wrote:In Mao Valley you don't need much room to flank. I've low crawled right past the enemy lots of times. I've gotten so many knife kills on that map. IMO its a great map because you never know what you'll come up on, maybe a couple enemies or a whole enemy squad.
Mao was fun occasionally, but was too small and cluttered. The CPs were nearly impossible to defend (especially since rally points were nearly impossible to find), prone to ridiculous amounts of grenade spam, and as I said above, everyone just died way too many times.
Very glad to see it go. Haven't had a chance to play any of the 0.6 maps, but I've got high hopes, especially for the ones that have long walking/driving/flying distances. Finally a map where you HAVE to take your time, and it's not the same old "Spawn, rush CP, die, rinse and repeat".

both maps suffer from design issues & technical limitations that would make them suck with the v0.6 game play.
we're trying to do a better job of culling out maps that don't fit the game play as it evolves and this is an example.
additionally reworking maps to match game play changes is *VERY* time consuming, so we have to focus where we think the efforts are best spent.

gulf of oman has recieved further changes from me based on my gameplay experiences with it.... it should play prety nice in v0.6... if it dont then yea i say we drop it hehe
Kyongan is definitely alot better than Mao Valley, sorry... Mao Valley is majority of the time, a sniperfest and a grenadespam fest, very repetitive... small scale map..
Steel Thunder is nice map, but I think taxi is gonna blow it away... tbh steel thunder terrain is way too simple, Look at Qwai River and Mestia for examples on how to do terrain RIGHT! Im sure the PR-made steel thunder will be wayyy better!
Operation Phoenix/Inishail Forest/Street - I agree they should be removed hehe

i really liked steel thunder, the map layout seemed simple and logical, and i really liked the colors used in the map it was dark and gritty,'[R-DEV wrote:fuzzhead']
