Maybe if fast descent (s) gets removed it could be used to adjust the angle and also work as a throttle? Kinda like in the F-35 when you press s the engine twists 90°

Nah, I had to try then :p And I was talking about flying my plane. I'm just skilled, what can I say?

I'm sure alot of you have seen or played those silly "Everything has boost" and "All weapons shoot exploding bullets" or "Humvee has an Artillery Cannon, TOW Missiles, can 500 Pound bombs", and commonly, they have boost added to everything.

Shouldn't it be possible to add 'thrusters' to the Helicopters, that'd point forward and be activated by the "Sprint Key"? Or something of the like.

Zander, All the Helos are made as real as possible. They already have turbine engines and can reach 220+kts! What more do you want?

Tupla_s, The Question was; If possible a trim tab could be mapped into flight controls. Not change flight model to BF:2142 style!

eddie wrote:Sorry but I really don't think this kind of thing would be possible with the BF2 engine. You might be able to angle the nose and then have a key to keep the helicopter hovering whilst moving, but I seriously doubt DICE have a feature like that.

Nice suggestion though.
I don't suppose you can just stick a bit of a tilt axis on the main rotor (moving, pilot operated parts are already on helos, Merlin Ramp ftw) so that the cockpit and guns will angle down a tad while keeping the rotor level?

Couldn't you make everything below the rotor a moving part, tilted up and down with extra keys?

Good Point.

In the interest of keeping it simple i thought, instead of 360degree trim. Forward/neutral/reverse angle trim. 2 keys required only.

I didn't mean it should be 2142 style. What I meant was, if you hold w it works normally, but if you hold s the rotor tilts a bit, but still works like normally does but there's just the slight angle down.

Maybe this helps you understand. (Both are hovering, just while holding different key)

I just dont understand what that tilt would be good for?
the gunner sees evrything either way.
the pilot doesnt have to see.
if the pilot now is so dam eager to fire of some rockets he can easily tilt and press S for a slower descent. whats the problem?

S makes you descend faster.... The reason we need tilt is so that we can fire off some rockets, keep moving forwards and increase the time it takes us to descend in height.

eddie I know pressing S should theoreticlly make you descend faster but it doesnt really.. atm the helos descend the fastest ingame by just tilting.
if you tilt the nose and press S though, you keep the helo in a quite stable position, descending very slowly making it easy to ruder and take out the target.
whilst if youd just tilt the nose without pressing S youd gain speed very fast and most propably end up in the ground. check it out: youll be able to dive attack perfectly.. specially helpfull with the AH6 against stationary AA

Heres a pearl of wisom:

Basicly, right...If you wanna get your nose down to rocket run without changing your flight path much, just hold S while your dipping the nose and you hardly descent at all and dont speed off. Release the S ket after firing and disengaging.

This method does slow you down some but it is the most effective way.

I'm not talking about real engines. I'm talking about adding a button activated push force that would not use Trim, but rather providing a predetermined amount of thrust that would work in situations where you could hover and nose down without losing altitude.

My idea was this:
Update the HUD to include an extra line higher up that the normal one is. Moving this line into the center of your screen would put you at a certain degree downward (15, as an example.)
Once this line was in the center, you'd be moving forward. But then, you push your "Sprint key" which would activate a "Thruster" which would push back on the helio with a force that would counter act the forward motion from nosing down that far. This wouldn't be modeled in, it would be an invisibly activated device.

I know it sounds odd, but if the Engine can support putting thrust pointed in a different direction, it would work.

All that talk of Ss and Ws makes me confused. I use ESDF on the ground and a joystick in choppers, ffs!

Though I did find that pulling the throttle all the way back results in the helo slooowly sinking to the ground. As a result, I usually dive in at high speed if I want to get down, or otherwise I end up an RPG magnet. Do the choppers really descend faster at mid-throttle than at 0%?

Yes and no. If you are in a flat hover position, then 0% is not only faster, but the only possible way down (Aside from ~10% and lower.)

But you can descend much faster at 100% if you nose down straight for the dirt and drop the throttle out and nose up a few meters off the ground.

All fantastic points guys.

I see the point regarding 'S'Key. This Key decreases Collective and therefore power respectively. Tupla's demographic deplicting 'tilt' is what i was hoping for! 'w' and 's' aside. A trim key to ascertain these angles, coupled with correct power/collective installments, would prove th theory.

NOW, CAN IT BE CODED!?
