Never been huge fan of POE but they do have some nice maps and the quality of the mod is pretty high quality besides the vanilla gameplay.

I like to play POE2 sometimes, the ambience of maps such as Fallen and First Snow is great, very impressive.
I agree, I feel there are too many vehicles in a map of that extension and it would be great if the mappers enlarge the surface in the next release.
con: vanilla teamplay, it's licit but you can see 64 players fight 64 different wars.

I think most of the POE maps are very good and athmospheric. Also i like their new "scopes".
But the mortar will unbalance the game very much. When you use the "overflight-view" you can look for hidden enemys and tell their location to your team.
But then patriot rules....usmc could use some at jab-al (the map with the beach and the dam

)

PR got rid of large numbers of vehicles ( IMO , Kashan Desert is step back ) , focusing on infantry combat which makes the game much more playeble because you actually can kill about 80% of enemy with your small arms . In POE 2 you're either in air vehicles or you end up with KDR below 0.5 ( mostly ) with exception for armour whores who get like 1.5-2 compared to 5-10 of flyboys one .
Maps themself aren't that bad , but they have too much vehicles in them with so little spawn timers .
wow, have you even played the mod? Fallen, Spies like us, & Orel (edit: OMG how could I forget woodland & stromfront! ) that's 5 Infantry only maps (granted stormfront is sniper infested & sucks

), not to mention most 16 player map sizes of the other maps. I think some people are trying to be cool bashing POE2. It was the winner of Mod of the Year for a reason you know? & not because it is **** - don't get me wrong I really like PR, but i'm really looking forward to the new build of POE as well, it's a very fun, high paced mod, way more enjoyable than vBF2..

I've played POE2 since october and till PR 0.5 release ( I played some 0.4 but I wasn't satisfied with it ) . Thats my own opinion based on the experience I got . And I hate them for making AT choper missiles lockable instead of TV guided ... you know , in vanilla you servive in choper only if you gunner is fast enough with TGM's ... in POE2 you're dead against any kind of AA because you can't hit it as fast as you can , you have to lock on it .
I'm also going to play their new release but old maps weren't fun at all - I'm dedicated infantry player and don't enjoy armour battles where infantry are just someone's frags as there are as much tanks attacking one flag as the number of infantry defending it or you have to stay in MBT\IFV for the entire round to get some good kdr . They defenitely need something like Javelin pick up kits or so to deal with massive armour waves ...
Among those 3 maps you mention Fallen becomes boring soon , I didn't like Spies Like Us at all ( though had some good rounds on that map ) and Orel is too dark . Maps I liked are Battle of Sambir , Highway to Hell , Lutsk , Dnipro Sunrise , Guardian - note that they all aren't infantry maps but battlefield itself is good . And their artillery is devastating , espesially at spawn camping of uncaps ...

Orel dark? eh? Orel isn't dark at all, must be something weird with your monitor/GFX.. "no mans land" another wicked Infantry only map, in fact I don't think there is any BF2 mod which has as many "infantry only" maps as POE tbh..

Yes , Orel is quite dark compared to vanilla infantry maps and almost all PR maps . 'No mans land' comes with mappack #1 , right ? I haven't played those maps much , but one in the forest is pretty cool .
PoE2 may have more infantry maps then other mods ( not counting PR as almost all maps may be considered as 'infantry' maps ) , but I don't like atleast half of them . Thats my opinion ( though I like PoE2 vehicles & weapons , they are very well done ) , you started this in your post and now please stop it . We gone hard offtopic with discussion of PoE2 maps .

I just can second what Rhino said. POE has very good quality maps which play very well. (Also played most of them 8 on 8 in a league for a few months) They look great, have an interesting layout and are mostly balanced.
The main trouble with POE is that it is not PR. (At least from the PR player's point of view)

All right mate, keep your hair on, like we're only having a discussion - it's a discussion board!. You were the one who said "Most of their maps have too much vehicles." seems to indicate to me, that you prefer infantry game play & dislike vehicles, now you're saying you like them? (confused??? I know I am). I'm just pointing out that there are what, 5 maps? that are practically completely infantry only, as are most 16 player map sizes in the mod. so your assertion is completely wrong, and Orel is not a dark map mate it's in broad daylight ffs so you're wrong on that point too. Good job on the new scopes though!

I really like PoE as a mod, its well made and most maps are fun, especially Fallen but as others before me said it lacks teamplay.

Anyway we could ever trade stuff with POE? Two of the best mods helping each other out wouldn't be a bad thing...after all both games are free so why not share the love?

i played in the poe2 toruney, i can tell you their maps are greate and well thought out.
infantry on infantry combat is intense and works well, there just isnt a lot of it around so far.
however yeh, i was in an infantry squad and 4/6 slots were nearly always at, and the brief spell in the ukrainian airforce squad teached the tactics of ramming with mig with only 20 seconds resapwn timer = win, since the lack of bombs made it semi redundant
but i dont really like the community there, there are way too many jet whores and its almost impossible to get into a euro and take off before being shredded by friendly aa for stealing 'their' plane.
its like for every good player (i know a few) there are 5 idiots, i mean worse then vanilla j10 tkers

those scopes are quite obtrusive, i would much rather use my VSS scope from DC !

POE: The fact the area out side the scope is the same zoom level as with in the scope is unrealitic.
PR: However the fact taht the area outside the zoomed in part is totaly obscured is unrealistic.
However i believe the POE representation looks many many times nicer, with the PR scopes being excpetional dull.
I also believe the POE scopes would aid in suppressing fire becuase players would be able to viewer a greater area when looking down there scope and therefore be able to ID a greater number of enemies whiel looking down there scope. This would make the use of scopes more potent and therefore encourage the use of using cover becuase your enemies can stike you down with increased ease better and laying down suppressing fire (from cover ofcourse) becuase as the speed at which and accurage soldiers can shoot the need for suppressing fire increases also (musket = supp. is of little help, No.4 Enfiled = supp. of muhc greater importance, AK47 = supp. vital).
Also, the present scopes some what encourage more sniping tactics due to the severly limited view, while increased view means being able to ID more targets and therefore making playes aware of the threats facing them and discouraging them from focusing on 1 single enemy player.
POE scopes shoudl enable players to stay alive easier therefore encouraging greater use of every kind of tactic.

If that's why, then do it a different way. I asked because if it was for any other reason than a game mechanic (which it is) then they would be retarded, like you. However, since that's how they chose to do it, they really should re-think it. Whats the point of having the M68 there at all, why not just a straight iron sight if you are going to gimp it like that.
