Seems, that all new generation games cant support a lot of players, so you could have full scale combined arms warfare...lets wait, untill PR for Bf2 is finished, then look for a game&engine, that supports full scale warfare...

Hey dont you dare laugh at the duke3d engine...one of the greatest FPS EVER! Who else can say they duked it out with pipe bombs in a porn shop and then watched naked ladies dance whilst picking up the rocket launcher and THEN gave strippers 20$ to "Shake it baby"...only to then send the said pipebomb down an elevator and wait for your best buddy to walk it into **Boom** "Ooh what a mess...your face, your ***...WHATS the difference!"...pure gold baby. PR on DUKE3D!

'[R-DEV wrote:Fullforce']We've definately considered it - the technology is amazing, definitely. But is it too amazing? You need Vista to play it, and a DX10 card (Lots of money involved here). It's hardly worth it, not until 2008 when DX10 cards are cheap - and to be honest, I don't fancy buying Vista any time soon.
Actually, the 8400 through 8600 line of GeForce cards aren't priced bad at all, and they are all DX10. Although you'd almost be required to have a 640MB 8800GTS or better to run Crysis on any decent graphical settings.

Crysis has been borderline vaporware for a while now. I don't think anyone's missing out on anything by not hearing about it.
Oh yay, some screenshots and videos. Then you're told you can't afford a system to run it and the hardware for it won't be released for another year or so.

Who cares, crytek has some amazing tech in it...thats all its about. They are the "first movers" who put all the R&D into the technology and then everyone else rides their coatails and makes good games. I'm sure Crysis will be fun\beautiful but lacking of depth as usual...this is a neccessary cog in the wheel of advancement. Damn it does look good, the animation is sick too...watch the one with the model crossing different variants of terrian and how it reacts. Impressive all around.

I think you are very biased to the negative. Crysis has a lot of hype ok. They have some delays. But there is not one resonable indication of it being "vaporware". Hell I played it last August and talked to the devs.
It's not the Second Coming, but it's a solid title that will be release sometime later this year in all probability. Any current system should run it but of course if you want to have the better optics you need the best equipment.
I do not feel like promoting crysis. I am not sure it would be my cup of tea although I feel it is a very innovative product. I just don't like it if people start bashing it without any intelligent reason.
As for the "next engine for PR" part of this thread: I do not think this is leading anywhere and wouldn't mind if someone decided to close this thread.

From what I've read, I see mostly information about why I WON'T be able to run the engine. How I don't have DX10, don't have Vista, don't have a quad-core....
It's like the press for the game is purposely trying to keep people out of the product. Start showing screens of current systems, talk realistically about what the average player can expect. Running a game on a $5k machine and then talking about release is vaporware to me. This title won't release until they lower the bar a bit. It's a business decision at that point. The audience to maintain profitability doesn't exist.
I upgrade my entire box every 1.5 years b/c I want a screaming gaming machine. For the past year (at least) I've been hearing nothing but nonsense about this game. For over a year it's required hardware
just outside what's currently available. I'm not buying into the hype.

Completely ignoring the above post because, quite frankly, it scares and confuses me, Crysis, like far cry, will most likely be a really fun game single player. *edit* - (someone posted before i finished typing this)
A shooter doesn't have to be realistic and tactical to be fun, but if its going to be realistic it had better be done right (PR style).
Multiplayer however will probably be fun for a few days but tire quickly. I can see some really cool mods being made for this amazing engine but I really doubt PR would work well on this engine.
Thought the physics and graphics are incredible, its a different style of game. If they had a huge battle-type game mode with regular, non-supersuit wearing soldiers, and drivable/pilotable vehicles then it would be a different story.
I think something like Unreal 3 engine or BF3 (god help us all if that is actually made) would be better suited.
Also i don't think its that they would purposefully show the game off running on low or medium settings, at least not regular game news sources. You also don't need to have DX10 to run this, they have shown the comparison shots between dx9 and 10 (it looks better, but not $500-new-video-card better). My system i made almost a year ago should have no problem running it (with the possible exception of vista, which i hope is not a flat out requirement).
