Actually I think Oman is a great map. Of all the Nilla maps, it's the most attractive. Especially with the wider open areas, it's great fun. It's just MEC tends to attract n00b players because it looks so stacked against US.

Well, USMC can go around and hide the APCs in the hills or that lil hill south of Hotel...

TBH, I had the idea for GoO 2, but that will have to wait, since Im working on soemthing else...

What's wrong with Oman? Almost everything:
  • USMC must travel a wide open, flat ocean and beach to assault flags, making them cannon fodder for MEC laying in wait.
  • Flags are so close together, than any attempt for USMC to approach them is met with a defensive fury of not just one squad, but nearly all; with all flags being within running distance of each other.
  • Far too many vehicles on the map for MEC. APC's, Tanks, AA everywhere, and not one but TWO anti-tank choppers. Get these up and running and USMC can't get 100 yards off the carrier.
  • Respawn for USMC vehicles is way too high. If the first USMC attack wave is unsuccessful (and it usually isn't), the USMC spends the next 10-15 minutes waiting on the carrier deck for a chopper or APC to spawn while MEC types into chat "where are the Americans?"
  • MEC tank/apc spawn to the northwest is illogical and a little more than a camper's paradise. Once someone drives the APC's away, you can't spawn there and tanks lay unused. If this is really to be "reinforcements" then there should be a base far northwest with protection and spawnable.
  • The map should be much larger, with a much longer beach, with flags spread out requiring MEC to drive to each flag, not so close that you can sprint in 30 seconds to each. This way, defensive fire isn't so concentrated and USMC has a chance to get a foothold.
  • The hills to the nw, north, and ne are flat, unimaginative, and without cover. Any attempt for USMC to assault from these areas are easily picked off with HAT or choppers. The hills should be similar to Jabal with steep cliffs and low valley roads for cover. This is also more realistic, like a coastal area on an island with roads leading away to the north.
  • The building themselves are kinda lame and unrealisic. Why would a hotel be built next to an airport with no other residence or commercial shops nearby? It's only purpose is to provide a second sniping position. Make the shoreline city buildings and houses, like an island resort or village. Push the airfield way back or remove it alltogether.
In fact, if I were redoing this map, I would place the MEC base to the far nw corner of the map with maybe 1 tank and 1 APC, 1 attack chopper, plenty of jeeps, and tons of fixed AAA. The surrounding mountains would be steep and the base itself would only be accessable by a road that runs southeast to a long series of villages with houses, shops, hotels, and docks; like a real life coastal resort and residence.

At the beginning of the round, MEC would spawn at the nw base only and have to race to the coastal areas to defend the incoming USMC attack. MEC infantry would arrive first, being met by USMC APC's, attack chopper, and blackhawks; a surprise USMC landing. An infantry firefight ensues, with the first wave of MEC probably taking heavy casualties from the USMC blackhawk and apc's.

The coastal flags would each be far apart; maybe with a hotel at each; this is where the flags would need to be controlled. Around each hotel would be a city, village, fishing area, etc. North of the hotels would be more residence/commercial buildings; maybe even a central market square that would also need to be controlled. To the north of that, steep hills and maybe 1 or 2 roads leading north and northeast off the map.

By this time, maybe 5-10 minutes into the map, MEC reinforceing armor/apc/chopper appears in the northwest base. MEC troops need to provide infantry support into the coastal village for their armor to advance and repel the USMC assault, and the battle continues....

I do agree that the tanks coming in from the west need a spawnable base. How about calling it "Vehicle checkpoint" or something?

I am by no means a mapper but I thought if they moved even one building the whole map had to be lightmapped again and maybe some more stuff.
I would just have the Attack Helo on a 5 min timer so the USMC had a chance.

I think you're right. IIRC didn't .5 also have a jet for MEC? Or am I thinking of OGM?

No jets in 0.6, but they had F18s and Frogfoot with MiG in 0.5
