I get it too. Probably everyone does but most just don't see it as a show stopper.

Yeah I get it too. It doesn't hinder my game play though. I see it about three or four times per round, usually when I'm zoomed in a tank or using binos. I have been ignoring it thinking that is must be my crappy 6800 card. Probably lots of other players see it too.

Well ive heard a DEV say that they are thinking about making .7 a build to only fix the many bugs and problems and not worrying about the content to much. I hope they do that because even with all the new toys we cant enjoy it as much with all the new bugs...GREAT MOD THO!!

I did some research on this and it appears to relate to Nvidia drivers to a degree. There was even a driver within the last few months for the newer cards that stated in it's notes that BF2 was having issues with this driver as described here. One guy reported fixing it buy getting the latest driver, uninstall everything BF2 and PR related, uninstall video driver, driver clean, clean BF2 cache/config. and reinstall everything. Now this was post from April of this year so I don't know about how relivant it is?
I tried disabling a z-buffer feature in RivaTuner (think it was z-buffer endless compresion or something? less z-buffer samples via compression technique) and it made no difference.
Anyone here know more about z-buffers? Is this a game engine thing or can it be addressed in a driver or video card setting? I'm going to keep looking into this some more. If their is a user side fix or a config. file I can edit hopefully we can find a solution.

I noticed that yesterday, too. I was playing around with the Defender, shooting with the mounted MG - zooming in and out, my target (one of the wrecked cars on al basrah) disappeared/appeared. I thought that was just on that car, but reading this, I'll have my eyes open for more vanishing targets

btw, i have a 8800GTS - and never had problems with it, since ArmA 1.0 :d uh:

I get the same thing, especialy on kashan desert.
I thought it was from overclocking before but its not, Running on factory settings, and good temperature ranges still produce all of these glitches and artifacts.

it's the code, and IMO it oughta be fixed so the game looks nice. We did fine without being able to see for 80 miles in .5!

Does anti-aliasing help at all?

Same prob with me, and no it's not show stopping. Just really annoying.
Gives the armor a slight advantage at ranges of 850m+
I got a ATI xt850-PE, at first I thought it was the drivers, nay...

I messed around with it and no, I didn't see any improvement. I'm using omega drivers for an ati card, so it's not just NVidia either. It's annoying, but doesn't make the game unplayable. Seems I only get it when moving and zoomed, in a tank or whatever.

Well considering it is happening on a large variety of cards both ATi and Nvidia I'm assuming it is an BF2 engine problem.
I'm guessing that the standard z-length has been surpassed and that is why with the new view distances we are seeing this things. I would guess that the Devs are going to look at what they can do to fix this. However if they don't have access to be able to configure it how they like then it's a dead issue. I'm fine with it but just curious as to how to go about fixing it. I tried searching for info on BF2 and z-buffer and z-length and could not find much of anything. I believe since PR is the first to push the view distance that it is still a new topic. If only I was smart and new how to mod this game I might have something more usefull then speculation.

Let's hope so! To be honest, it is pretty show stopping for me. It takes away the immersion by making the graphics look unrealistic and crappy.
I'd love to hear a DEV state the plans for this.
