I flyed at arround 100 metres @ Kashan and we was behind the hills at the bunkers.we only came up if they spotted something... Just because we were at this low altitude my gunner were able to see the whole bunkers at once... He shoot his hellfires and than we were going under at the hills again till the next strike. I think one important thing is never hover at the same position always move a bit while he is searching something... or do you want to get hit by a HeavyAT or tank?
Staying low was the best tactic back in 0.6 where you could pop up, let the gunner fire the TV missile and duck down before the enemy had a chanse to react. Now you have to hover untill your gunner hits the target and that can take a while when its 800-900 meters away.
When your flying at 600 alt on Kashan, your gunner can see the ground around the chopter PERFECTLY and will be able to engage whatever he sees pretty much unseen. AAV's usually dont drive around and look strait up (coz thats pretty much what you need to do to spot the chopter) so you can sometimes even sneak up on those.

So say there was AA in the area/it spotted you what would you do?

Drop flares, get the hell out and not go back. Or take it out, if it doesn´t spot you and you see it first.

Well I've had plenty of practice offline and felt pretty confident about flying online tonight. As soon as other people started appearing on my screen the PC started to slow down badly and I barely managed to land and only half a squad managed to get out before the chopper felt on its side
Sorry to those I killed on Al Basrah tonight.

Hey if you feel a heli get out of control at all and you are within 20 feet of the ground just switch to the co pilot position.
Its totally wrong but helis land more easily with no one as pilot, it'll survive most of the time and land evenly on its wheels
I think I know you from the ocuk forums?
The merlin and huey do have bad lag sometimes, not really your fault

Yea its awful when you try it for the first time and then crash an entire squad of guys and then they say "Great pilot". Its like... you know what Merlin Lag is tardface?
Gonna get a new rig before I try that again.

Very nice guide! I actually have some very basic questions about the gunner controls as i'm very new to pr.
When the gunner presses the right mouse buttonit leaves this little square. what is the purpose of this? Or is that to be used to lock laser targeted objects with? Thanks

That's exactly what it's used for. Handy if you run out of ammo in your chopper so you can get someone else to hit the target .

A tactic I haven't seen here for the transport choppers is making "dummy drops."
What this is meant to do is confuse the enemy where you are dropping your troops. Usually it is not good to drop your troops at the 1st stop, but the 2nd or 3rd one. The enemy is likely to go to the 1st spot (the 1st time anyways) and find nothing. After that you need to start switching up when you drop them.
This is a tactic that was SOP in the Marines when I was in and worked wonders in 29 Palms against the OpFor spotters.

He can guide it down manually, targetted is still better. Cycle the weapons its 3 & 4 , the ammo is shared

I have been improving my copter skiils over the last couple of weeks, well say improving more getting some. Here's a few from a novice. ( top copter score ( 1154 0-4 )
Take-off
When you have the warm up, you might hit torque to quickly and find that the chopper doesn't move. This is a sign that when your free to take off your going to flip. Take your torque to 1% and then up to 40% and back down twice for safety. I have found that once I've done this I don't flip.
Landing
You would think that on landing that having 1% power would be best for when landed. Don't if you do you find that the tail of the copter can sometimes bounce on the carrier. having 8-10% power stops this from happening.
When landing if your speed is below 120mph your pretty safe.
LZ
Best place that you can land is a road, it's so more forgiving. you can do faster landing and less chance of crash.
Try to practice a map on your own before attempting to fly others. find locations that are good for safe landings, where you know you can land
Turn roll
If you going to attempt to roll in a turn max sure you have plenty of speed, at low speed your lose it.
Huey AH
If you flying on your own join a squad and ask the SL to give you attack vector. If you get some height 250m, on his go order attack dive in from a distance of @1000m when at 600m-700m let rip with your rockets at the attack mark. Swing out and rearm. Your nearly guaranteed a kill. Without loss of Huey.
Crates
For airdrop crates 20ft or below and low speed, of course remember its fragile.
Added,
watch out for AA stations when landing, they will take you out if you hit/nudge them. Also razor wire will take you down easily too.

Well basically if you play Kashan or Qinling... Only if you fire your 20mm or 30mm of the Havoc or Apache right to the ground makes your enemys scared... The guns are good for suppresion
and if you want them to shit right into their pants give them a Hellfire right into the front of their capped bunker...

To magnify this effect do it with a lase from above the clouds so they can't hear you or see you
Above cloud spraying with the gun is good for taking out squads, just be sure allied troops aren't in the vicinity.
While the chopper is in hover it is vulnerable to HAT snipes. Keep it random and move to different spots. A dead hover is a gunners best friend (so is an extra zoom level )

Since everything important has already been written i'm just going to say my little tip.
Its not very important but I practised getting into the bunkers with the BH and LB in kashan, it helps me understand the dimensions of the choppers and practise that precise and fine hovering/throttle/chopper control a lot.
And it saved me a lot of times when i was flying over the bunkers with a full Sqd inside my BH and i got targetted by two tanks. i landed inside the bunker as i was smoking bad, waited there with the sqd for our cobras to take out the tanks, meanwhile capturing the bunkers. When the tanks were gone i got in teh chopper and got back to base safely.
