If you live in the UK, then check for a Poundland or similar near you. The best mic I have ever owned came from there! I still have a couple of spares here I think. I buy the mono headset with mic, just use the mic lead (and use good hifi 2ch headphones for sound) and then just clip the cheap thing round my throat with the mic sticking upwards.

I have a mic but i dont enjoy/unable to due to work - use it for BF2. If i join a squad with a Mic using SL - i will happily tap the pageup/pagedn to respond to orders and will type in squad chat any relevant info - "NME Rally in South G5" etc

If i had the freedom of to use a mic then i would - but i dont so - i wont.
People under the impression that the issue is cheap skates unwilling to spend a £10 on a mic are mistaken - the lack of voice communication in BF2 is more a personal/cultural issue. In guild based games like WOW - 40 man guild raids will routinely use voip (in fact in is pretty compulsory) but people generally dont like to to talk to strangers - which is the case on a random public PR server.

Well, we aren't exactly all strangers really. PR is a small community as far as the BF2 community goes and if you play on servers at the same time as other people you meet, then over time you make friends.

VOIP isn't just about speed of communication, it's about socialisation. You meet friends, have a laugh, really enjoy your time online gaming. Utter silence usually results in a buzzing in my head leading to a headache. When no voip is used, things get so impersonal and it's not merely that the gameplay suffers, but that I could be with others using voip and feel that human presence online.

I have a theory,i think lots of PR player are under 16,they sound like girls or children(no offence here, just my thoughts),thus they dont use mics.Hence when some1 speaks on mic they always sound mature.

Thats my opinion, didnt mean to offend -16 players.

And i agree with MrD...VOIP is more than communication, for example when the pilot carrying your squad crashes in to woods instead of dropping you you start to laugh on VOIP cursing,so annoying times like these become less frustating ;)

I agree with you MrD that VoIP is more than just improving comms - the chance to socialise is desired by many people. I spend my whole day talking to people for work and when i game, the last thing i want to do i speak to anybody. I dont have enough time for the few friends i have in real life and have no real desire to make more in virtuality. Having said that - i really feel that a squad leader should use VoIP and all squad members should (at least) listern on VoIP.

A long time ago (well when BF1942 was popular) i was part of a clan and we used VoIP for matches and practice and it was fun but on a random server - it is not for me and i think a lot of other people are a lot more "casual" than you would think....

I believe that many ppl dont use mic coz they have a bad english prononsiation(sp?). My english prononsiation is terrible but i still try to use VOIP and just talk slowly.
