100% true with me too.
Usually by someone with a full "VOIP" squad, no mic, and a sniper kit.
I love being squad leader at times, hate it at others. It really sucks when you have no commander, or one without a mic, and i particularly dislike being squad leader on maps like Mestia and Basrah. Usually because everyone seems like they want to do their own things, and as a result I have to kick a lot of people.
I really enjoy it on maps like Jabal and Kashan. Its great when you get a good commander with a mic.
One of the main draws for me of squad leaders is the coordination between squads and assets. Hell, no arty? no problem on kashan with a good commander and an competent air squad. I actually have requested an airstrike as a squad leader and got my target destroyed! One of the best feelings ever.

More fun huh? A lady class as request kit?
On topic: Well yeah, if squadleading is not "fun" enough for you then you probably shouldn't be a leader in the first place.

On Ejod I just lead a defensive squad on both rounds; first as MEC, and we won, and then again as USMC, which we won again.

Being SL is the most fun!

Noone listen ... I'll write it again
SL needs more gadgets to co-operate with other squads\commander\vehicles . Atm it is close to impossible to call for airstrike or reinforcements from other squad .

Fully agree. Now the only way is through the commander. And that doesn't seem to go for the most times.

I can tell you straight off why that is. In 0.5, people took commander because they wanted to command.
In 0.6 (less in the OB, but definitely now it's full release), people are taking commander because they want to build massive bases.
Don't get me wrong; I love the new assets, and they can be a major aid (and enemy's, a hindrance) when used properly.
However, how many of you as a SL have gone "Oh goody! A commander to request supplies from and to advise us on enemy contacts!"... only to find that 5 minutes later you can't raise your new boss over VOIP, you're still having to report contact with enemy armor and aircraft via team chat, and now you've got half a squad's-worth of troops running around with the commander in a bigass noisy sitting-duck target trying to build the next Fort Knox.

WTF!!! Been playing the LAST FEW DAYS and already complaining about being a SL !!
Shit I've been in "training" in SP mode for the last few WEEKS (off and on anyway

) learning all the nuances of being a SL so when I do the job , I can do it competently. (me thinks me taking the game a wee bit to seriously eh .. might need to get myself a life

).
Took me MONTHS in the KOCR's to get to PFC and I sure the hell wasn't ready to lead anyone anywhere 'cept maybe to the QM store (but then maybe I'm just a slow learner

).
Anyway , to the OP , the primary responsibilities of the SL in PRM seem to be to act as a sort of command centre rather than a front line operative as YOU as the SL are a spawn point , responsible for setting way points and rally points (from which your squad can draw other kits as required , rearm etc.) and directing you squad to various targets.
Look at the SL as being a type of "kit" .If you want to play other kits , maybe being a SL isn;t the role you should assume though unfortunately , once your in that position , it's kinda hard to let it go except by leaving the squad then rejoining.
Would be nice if there were an option for the SL to step down and someone else to volunteer to take it over rather than someone being arbitrarily assigned the position.

I am not the best SL by a long shot, but I am slowly learning things as I go and I do find it enjoyable, but that's me. The only think that is a pain in the *** when being a SL are the jackholes that only join squads so they can access other weapon kits and vehicles. And as mentioned many times before, if you give an order that is repeatedly not followed by your team, boot em. This is why the "(player name) has xx seconds to join a squad or be kicked" needs to be a built in part of the game and not just an option. If you're not being a team player and end up getting booted from multiple squads, your options are limited as far as even staying on that server.
Sometimes, I don't feel like going through the hassel of being squad leader and just choose to play as a squad member. Its as simple as that. The SL role may need a few tweaks, but as far as I'm concerned, its ok the way it is.
As far as arty, we can't get people to even use the existing assets properly most of the time, you want to give them a tool that can do massive damage to their own team if not used properly? The biggest problem with ARTY is the fact that even though players see the bright red flashing arty icon in their area, they insist on running right into ground 0 anyway and have the audacity to blame it on the commander or in this case, the SL that called it.

The Great Danton wrote:I love to lead and guide others, so being squad leader is satisfaction enough for me. Anyways, I really don't think that we want our squad leaders being people who took the job just so they could call artillery. We want the guys who enjoy being a leader and who don't mind having an awful KD ratio, as long as their squad is making an impact on the game.
Agree 100% with you.
I enjoy playing SL and it's great when the squad sticks together, follows orders, and helps the team with it's ultimate goal.
I had a great squad as US on Sunset City the other day (on the TG server). We spawned and went straight to Construction Site and took position ready to cap it as soon as Temple got capped. I explained to the squad why we were going there, how we'd get there, and they performed brilliantly. We lost the round though - but it was fun.
My main annoyance when SL is when you call your squad something like "VOIP INF" and someone joins and announces they'll just take the chopper for a spin.

When i feel like it squad leading is great, even better when your sqaud gets 'the best squad award'. i would disagree about the SL kit though, its one of my favourite kits (i have a serious pistol fetish in PR), but somthing for coordinating airstrikes ect would be cool.

Squad leader is awesome. If you don't enjoy it than don't play it. I think officer has the best kit personally.
