They fire the same ammunition as the 2A42 cannon on the BMP-2/BTR-90 and 2A38M cannons on the 2S6M Tunguska, 30 x 165mm. For comparative purposes, the GAU-8 Avenger's cartridges are 30 x 173mm; the Bushmaster II on the Marines' EFV uses this ammunition as well.

The advantage to the GAU-8 Avenger is the high rate of fire, and the fact that the magazine for the weapon holds a thousand more rounds than the magazine on the Su-25 family if aircraft.
Ah,my bad then, somehow I still had 23mm in my mind.

My mistake, got the numbers mixed up.

Also, in game the Su-25 shoots slightly lower than its aiming reticule thing.

I haven't tried it out. But since BF2 can only do certain rates of fire, and therefore PR has changed around the splash damage/normal damage to "simulate" the higher rate of fire, shouldn't that mean that the round count itself should be less?

For example. You have the A10 firing @ 900RPM in BF2, because that's the fastest it goes. So you increase the splash damage and the overall damage to make it seem like it's going faster (same goes for the sound) - Yet, it still has 1500 rounds. Which means that, in PR, it will end up having more than 1500 rounds. Get me? Basically, the A10 only really has a few seconds of fire. But in PR, it's much much more than a few seconds.

The same probably goes for all cannons that have had this "rate of fire" fix. If you get me. I'm not sure whether the ammo count has been taken into consideration. If I'm wrong then slap me silly.

i think that PR should replace the su-25(iraki version, CAS only) with the su-39 (antitank-version) from armored fury

@Mekstizzle: I agree, The A10 in real life has a ROF of around 3900 rounds/minute and holds 1350 rounds, this means that the cannon can fire for 0,34 minutes or 20,7 seconds until its out of ammo (excluding overheating). translated to BF2/PR with a max ROF of 1800 that means that the A10 only should have about 620 rounds

Reason: Max ROF is 1800, not 900

Personally, I'd give the -39 the edge in RL as it has the ability to go super-sonic, very comparable turn radius, and about as tough as the A-10. The ability to hit and outrun the Warthog gives it the advantage imo.

In game, nothing touches the GAU-8 Avenger! :-P
in armed assault theres a plane called an SU-34 and its a bomber/ground pounder plane. the A-10 seems to be better than that due to its freakin amazing main cannon. which can destroy anything instantly. the SU-34 has a lot of rockets (as mentioned earlier by someone) to attack light vehicles and infantry as well as a machine gun/cannon (but not as powerful or as accurate as the A-10s mains cannon.

Soldier of Fortune, this is the SU-34, which is not currently in PR.

SU-25 is wayyyyy better than the A10. A10 cannon cannot match the 128 rockets. Frogfoot is also smaller and faster.

The GAU-8's fear factor is more than enough to put it above and beyond the Su-25.

Round 1.. fight!

I'd have to go with the frogfoot.. he's more slippier and agile.

Meh, in my oppinion the A-10 Is better, I never liked the Su series at all. The A-10 has a Gau-8/A 30mm Coke bottle launcher out its nose! I was in Basrah on 0.5 and one flew over my head, I nearly crapped myself trying to get to a ditch to hide myself in, he was flying really low.

I just love opening up on tanks and enemy infantry with them sooooo Muuucchhh!!!

Its just fun to me, the Frogfoot just is too ugly and unstable for my taste.
