Before hotfix, there was no turning deviation at all and jumping was instant stabilization.

So basically now, snipers only really work well if you
Aren't moving much
Are Prone
Sounds good to me.
Maybe tweak the SVD and Chinese Sniper to be a bit more accurate while standing and crouched so that they can be used more as squad support weapons with then as individual sniper units, and to compensate for their much weaker scope magnification.

Well, I can't say I'm super impressed with how games have done the BDR on rifles. Especially Dice and EA.
Most rounds shot from a .308 rifle within the first 100 yards gain approximately 3.5 inches vertically. After 200 yards it sways back down to -6 inches. 300 yards -18 inches and so forth.
Sadly though in this game the Developers at Dice seem to think that 30 yards is closer to about 300 yards. I also had a concern about the rifle on this game. I went prone with my rifle and waited about 4-6 seconds to shoot at a target that was literally across the street from me. Using the tanks Range finder I was able to estimate the distance to be 30 in game yards. Anyways, I aimed at the central mass of the target (somewhat higher, more towards the base of the neck) and fired. Missed. I fired again, missed. I fired a third time and missed. The enemy quickly turned around and let a burst loose with his AK-101. Killing me.
I hope the Devs work this innacuracy thing out.

Bullet drop shouldn't be much of a factor in most circumstances when you're sniping in BF2, the ranges aren't very long when you're talking about a sniper rifle nad the rifle should be sighted in for 200 or 300m. A more likely problem would shooting at targets that are be at the high point of the bullet trajectory, as the round would go high.
I haven't played Sniper in awhile, does the M24 in game use an authentic
mildot scope? if it does you already have a rangefinder.

Me and a fellow sniper from Mah' unit tested the accuracy of the M24 at ranges of 250m (Which I assume is what an M24's Common Zero is.. No?)
I sat still, prone, for 10 seconds. We had T.S. working so he made sure to simply stand there and not move so that I wouldn't have to adjust at all. I even binded my firing button to shift so that I wouldn't have to worry about moving the mouse once I settled it.
Let's just say the rifle shot about a 7foot deviation on average. He even recorded about 10 shots that flew "High" and to the right of him.
I don't care how ya' guys change things up, honestly (Although, I would really prefer you squash the notion of balance and go for 100% realism were possible). I enjoy your mod. Yet, I just wanna' know the secret to sniping in it. I mean, really, if the rifles cannot even hit stationary targets with a 10 second rest what's the point of em'?
You say sit still and wait for the perfect shot. I do that, and I still don't land a connection. On a STANDING target. He's not even prone to reduce the target surface, he was full on standing.
Furthermore. I noticed that I'm deathly accurate against teammates. No matter how much I move, and mah' shooting stance, I can drop a teammate.
...I don't want ya' to change anything if it isn't broken. Just tell me what I need to do to land an accurate shot with the M24. Honestly, sitting still doesn't seem to be doing it.

IIRC True Sniper rifles such as the M24 are zeroed for like 600m. I could be wrong, but thats what sticks in my mind.

This is exactly how I feel.

i can understand that the m24 needed a bit of work. but its been totally overkill. i was proned a few days ago and missed 2 clips at someone proned and not moving. -- the svd is fairly useful though. in reality all that has happened from vanilla bf2 is that the 2 guns have swapped roles. the m24 is way too inaccurate at the moment. it needs some tweaking still.

600m seems a bit extreme for a battle zero, I'd think if a sniper was taking a shot at something that far away he would be tweaking his zero for it. I was thinking more on the lines of 300m
Not all snipers are of the scout variety, hanging going out all alone (or with a spotter typically in modern deployment) behind enemy lines and such.

I think simply adding in scope movement would do more than editing all this other code to fuck with how it fires and make it shitty.
The sniper needs to get an overhaul. Things that should affect how well you can shoot. If you run around even sprint 50m your heart rate would go way up, and when you would look thru the scope its going to be moving as you will be breathing hard and heart pumping.
Make a stamina bar just for the sniper that only lasts for say 5 seconds or less. This would be the "hold your breath" bar like in splinter cell. The scope would remain still until the stamina runs out, and all other times the scope would be moving slightly. Basicly you wont be taking any precise shots unless you hold your breath.
When you right click to enter scope view it should not be instaview, it should take a second or two before you can clearly see what you are trying to view.
The weapon isnt the problem its how easy it is to use it. If something takes skill to use and you own fools with it more power to you. But point and shoot is stupid and nerfing a weapon should (im sure it is) only be a temp fix to a problem that isnt the weapons fault.

I agree with most of you about the M24 I have faith that the PRMM crew will fix it up. BTW I had some great games yeasterday on glory hounds I think PRMM has massive potential especially considering how young the mod is and how good it already is.
See Ya'll out there
