I think many people want the Sniper changed solely for the fact that they can never get it and think that if it isnt quite as effective and "cool" that newer vBF2 player wont take it. Guess what? They're still gonna take it. As long as the sniper kit has a sniper in its kit, its gonna be a heavily requested item, mainly by people who dont REALLY need it. Ill admit, there are times when I feel like taking one, even though im not the greatest.
Take away the nades and pistol and instead of having th bad snipers run up and die on the front lines, youll have them staying back and hiding and never really doing anything (or some other detrimental example)
Long post short, EVERYONE will ALWAYS want the Sniper kit as long as it has a sniper in its loadout. End of story really IMHO.
My suggestion is just keep it somewhat balanced, if the nades are taken out, oh well... but I think it should keep the pistol... but in all honesty, I dont mind it...

sniper kits are overrated.
BF2 nubs get it and they're like...wtf this gun sucks
bolt action singleshot with long range scope...and a pistol and nades and a knife.
nothing really needs to be done about the sniper kit, people just need to REALIZE that its NOT THAT GREAT, and that theyll most likely suck with it if they try and use it.

* What about removing the pistol and grenades? This would advocate snipers to use a spotter for protection, or something similar to that.
I might come up with more. And, by the way, this is not ONLY about giving vBF2 kids a harder time using the sniper, it's about making the sniper more realistic as well.
I agree with most of wat u said. but im not too keen on forcing the sniper lie down. i dont think its necessary. and he should still carry a sidearm. even the least-nooby player can find themselves being snuck up on!

Wasn't there an old code for 0.4 or 0.3, where Sniper kit got replaced with Marksman on certain maps?* Remove the kit TOTALLY on small maps and/or maps with low view distance, and increase the number of marksman kits instead.
I know, back in 0.5 when I went over the config files, I saw a code like that.
Can we implement that back, because on maps like Helmand or Street, snipers should not be available.

Why on Helmand though? Sure, it's a small map, but it's like saying you shouldn't have 64player servers run the map.
I mean the sniper in Helmand is insanely useful, if not more than against conventional armies, especially due to the fact the insurgents have no real reach except for the SVD. And then there's the dunes that provide excellent cover, movement, and give a very good line of view over an area which has no cover(OR, the enemy is on another dune, in which they are not moving).
Now Street, I fully understand. Even having the 4x zoom in that map seems a little crazy.

Who needs a sniper kit in game? Any assault rifle in game is just as accurate. Only advantage a sniper kit has in game is better zoom at the moment. Sniper kits aren't used properly in game because most people don't know how to properly use that sort of equipment. Which is as it should be I guess.
So long as we have uber accurate assault weapons in game, the sniper/marksman kits will be next to useless. Why would someone with a sniper kit want to get into a shootout with anyone with an assault rifle kit? They fire a lot faster than the sniper weapon and are just as accurate (except for extreme distances, and that’s cause the sniper scope has better zoom) in game.
Sure they are fun to use, but at the moment it doesn't have any "real" advantage over any other scoped weapon in game. Don't see how anyone with a sniper/marksman kit can last very long under those conditions, and get kills to support his team let alone be able to provide and any sort of sitrep concerning troop movements. Especially since no one "fears" or "respects" what those kits should be capable of. But why should they, anyone in the game that has an assault rifle has the same accuracy regardless of body position or stance. Let them respawn faster and get the sniper kit again. They'll just die faster, and help their team lose faster.

I don't really care about the sniper... but problem is that if there is no sniper available then those noobs get the damn marksman and that's one of the kits that i prefere to use...
I agree with getting the sniper only from Base, APC and ammo crates but not with the other suggestions. I would add more marksman tho.
