Have you ever seen a crewman equiped with a welder on a battlefield in a middle of battle? Tanks are not equiped with such a tool (in real life/Project Reality). Heavy damaged tanks are usually pulled back from the battlefield and repaired away from the front line.

It is true that this kind of welding repairs work, but it is not done by the crewman (because they don't have a proper tools).

See! Proof that all crewmen should be able to completely repair a tank. If they got all those spare barrels they gotta have loads of spare tracks/armour plating too don't they?

The Australian army the tank crewman's one or all of them are trained as an engineer and a crewman; I think it common practice in army to do this. Im starting to believe you all wanted the crewman’s wrench removed because you found the game too hard because a crew man was able to repair his tank and get back it to the fight there is nothing unrealistic about being able to do this saying other wise makes you look like a whinger. I don't under stand we all came to PR for a challenge AND NOCKING out tanks was bloody fun lol because they could get them selves repaired more readily and you had to go and hunt them down and finish them off That was fun guys chasing them down now we can't do that, taking away the wrench just removed that challenge and most enjoyable part of tank hunting the chase down of the wounded beast.

i personaly think that each map should have a reapir point (maybe another could be put up by the commander, as a deployable asset, and only at this point will the tank reapair

bull they would have spare parts and plates and a welder in there some where in the tank for field repair's and doing what I described would not take long and could be done in the field. you just don't want tanks in this game to be able to repair them selves because you find it presents to much of a challenge and you can handle it is that why it was removed because you lot could not handle the difficulty of crewman being able to repair there tanks, removal of this fetcher had nothing to do with realism did it :-P .

Yeah exactly. Neither the engineer or the crewman should be able to do any extensive repairs in my opinion but they should both be able to do a limited amount. Until we get some sort of repair area in game though the engineer repair is necessary though but there should be some way of crewmen been able to do a very very limited amount.

I've asked before but didn't really get a proper/any answer as far as I can remember, but can the amount of "health" a wrench can give and the "reload" time be altered? If so giving the crewman a very weak wrench with a really long "reload" time would seem to be a good compromise.

nah put it back the way it was it was perfect the way it was did not need altering.

Better yet, give the engineer a proper recovery vehicle with same repair speed as his spanner.

I have no problems with tanks. Overwhelming power of a tank is only a myth. If you really think that there are some whelders on board of a tank then show me some convincing PROOF (pictures, movies, technical manuals... anything) and I will agree with your opinion.

if the mentally challenged or the inexperienced didnt keep taking them then tanks would last a hell of alot longer!

You give up? Thanks! 1-0 for me.

Chicken!!!
You are such annoying.
-> Did you ever whelded anything? I did.

-> You can't carry a gas welder in a tank. Also you can't use electric welder because tanks electrical istallation is not adapted for using welders of any kind (electric currents characteristics are not proper, there should be some adaptors/transformers if you want to plug in a welder... and as you know there is no room for useless equipment inside a tanks hull).

-> You can't weld modern tanks hull so easily because they are not one piece of steel, they have so called composite armour (layers of ceramics, deplited uranium and other stuff).
About Abrams read here -> http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/abrams.htm

-> Armored cavalery squadron pays a lot of attention to keep their tanks on the move.

quote: c. PARAGRAPH 03, Maintenance Section.
(1) Functions. Provides unit level maintenance on organic
equipment and recovery support for the tank company. To accomplish
these functions, the maintenance supervisor is assisted by a tank
system mechanic, two recovery vehicle operators, two equipment
records/parts clerks, three tank turret mechanics, three tank
automotive mechanics, and a light wheel vehicle mechanic.

If that what you say is true, there would be no reason for them (mechanics) to exist.

-> This is how damaged vehicles are repaired
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=4a4_1187447012
They are not repaired by their crew and they are not repaired on a battlefield, damaged vehicles are evacuated from a battlefield.

->Another exaple that tanks and other heavy equipment are not repaired by their crew (read and look at the photo)
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=a2a_1174556221

-> Almost every hit with AT missile or with SABOT shell leads to penetration. This means that every thing that was behind an armour is good as death (crew, engine, fragile electronics). You don't have to blow up the whole tank to immobilize it, all you need is to hit the right spot

Go to http://www.liveleak.com/ and search those movies because you are not aware how damaged tank (and also other vehicles) looks like:
