I tweaked the AA for my PR SP and doubled the speed of AA missiles from 1000 to 2000, so they could catch up with jets and they do...I lost my A-10 engine 3 times in a row from a Tunguska

Thats the point of a plane, hit and run, and the AA gunner is supposed to be constantly checking the sky having other squadmates covering 'em
Anyways, its still pretty annoying

HELICOPTERS ARE WAY TOOO FAST

Because of the areo dynamics aircraft are limmited to speeds more than about 200knots because of retreating blade stall it would be nice to see that changed because its really annoying going 1100 knots in an apachee. does anyone agree? desert combat might not have been as realistic but they got the chopper speeds right!

You don't get it
The speedometer is broken - it's measurements indicate nothing other than 'fast' and 'slow'
The speed of the choppers certainly feels realistic and I'm confident that the data that the devs used is accurate

I don't get your point. The OP was asking for realistic speeds. I said that I think they are quite realistic atm.
I don't see how the map size or amount of players has anything to do with the speeds being realistic or not.

Jets go WAY faster IRL :)

oh i see and it feels realistic because you know what it's like to fly a real helicopter then?

erm no.. what he is saying is that the actual in game speed readings in the helo bares no relationship to the speed the helo is travelling at, in-so-far as indicating that the helo is going fast or slow.

So when you read the speed as 1100 knots you are not actually going at 1100 knots, you are travelling at the speed the dev's decided was appropriate for the craft to travel at within the "reality" of the game world. If they could make it read 200 knots if that is more appropriate and i defere to your judgement on the matter. i'm sure they would but because of limitations they can't, so we're stuck with incorrect speed readings..

The top speed of an A10 Thunderbolt is 420mph, which is I dunno in kilometers.

Is it presented in land miles or nautical miles?

1 land mine = 1609,344 m = 1,609344 km
1 nautical mile = 1852 m = 1,852 km

If top speed of A-10 is presented in land miles than top speed in kilometers is 675.92448 km/h
If top speed of A-10 is presented in nautical miles than top speed in kilometers is 777.84 km/h

PS. It is probably in nautical miles

It probably is in knots.

Just like to point out this post to everyone that missed it.

Hey dude, Juba wrote 420mph.

mph = miles per hour

So where did you get those knots?

duly noted! I do enjoy the convo but the flight characteristics are a bit off, my only gripe has to do with the acceleration more then the actual top speed.

Well this is the suggestions & feed back section, i'm sure the dev's would be most intersted to hear your opinion on the matter! while I have no "real" world experience of any aircraft I think the descent rate of the Blackhawks, especially, and, to an extent the apache is to slow & could do with a tweaking. Though this is nothing other than an assumption on my behalf!.

this goes without saying and will hopefully be addressed in the big avionics audit in 0.7
biggest problems are - acceleration is far too fast, deceleration is far too slow and turning/rolling is done at rates far in excess of +/-9.0g

The units used by the speedometers are not in real life units. They are completely made up right now. The F-16 currently goes at around 125 m/s. (I flew 1000m and timed it). Thats about 240 something knots, which is pretty slow for a plane without AG munitions. At any rate, the game says I was fly 1700 BVs (battlefield velocity), which is total garbage. Its just there to look cool and it just changes with your airspeed to give you an idea of how your velocity is changing.
