you would have to do some research. When making something realistic for the past you also need to make realistic battles that happened.

They where in fact given stinger missiles by the US :p

But i agree, maybe its something we should try to do in PR ;)

DavidP wrote:Play fallen times same thing really.
na, its very unrealistic with its fire balls etc :p

Really the only conflict in the last 100 years with a dynamic and somewhat even battle field was WWII. WWI would be terribly boring as previously mentioned. There were very few battles where tactics went beyond "CHARGE!!!!" and "RETREAT!!!". Korea might be interesting, very asymmetric warfare, but how do you allow the North to have massive numbers with poor weapons in a game which only allows 32pp per side. Vietnam was too asymmetrical, as the current conflict in Iraq is, US firepower completely dominates the place it occupies, but when the US leaves it falls right back to the "red" forces.

If you want to go back in time, I think the best option would be a USSR vs USA cold war gets hot "near reality." Think the classic Clancy book Red Storm Rising. There were plenty of shooting incidents during the cold war, many of which could have escalated to full conflict. Set the time in the early 80's when Reagan was itching for a fight, an accidental discharge ignites a full scale armor assault in Germany...

I think its got potential.

You mean Pr set in the not too far past? Oh my god you read my mind! I was gonna suggest just now maybe to make a USSR in Afghanistan map.

I know a couple billion people who would disagree with you there buddy.

WWI wouldn't work, mainly because of the scale of all the battles. 63 V 1, heres the scene.

Commander: "OK lads, move forward and advance on the entrenched MG08, impenetrably surrounded by barbed wire and sandbags, CHARGE!"

Rat-rat-rat-rat...

"S***".

How about BF Cowboys vs. Indians ;]

The WWI officers were used to fightig colonial wars where the most scary weapon the enemy had was often a pointed stick. WWI was the first time they had really fought anyone with equal technology and military knowhow as themselves since the days of chivalry...

It might be interesting to see a Falklands war mod, UK vs Argies over lots of island-based maps (or one biiiig ArmA-esque archipelago map, tho that'd have to be a new game not a BF mod). I've never seen a Falklands game...it may have been a short war but it was messy for both sides and if it hadn't happened IMO the British army wouldn't be half as good as it is today at fighting; it taught us a lot of lessons.

Leaving aside any discussion of "cool" or otherwise (war is not cool. at all. ok? ) It is difficult to think of a theatre that would "work" with the PR treatment on this engine.

The falklands has already been mentioned, though perhaps one could look at other scenarios rather than historical.

One that rarely receives much consideration is a "scandinavian" scenario. Winter Ops, particularly, could be an interesting change. I know that snow is hard to model, but reskinning for winter camo should be a fairly "quick win" (relatively speaking! ).

A huge wooden map in Sweden perhaps, called Operation Moosehunt :D
