would be better to model the entire trench as it would be more detailed, but still not worth the effort, the only thing the trench would be good for is for now allowing the insurgents soo close to the wall, they will still be able to chuck nades over. We would also like to move the aim of the map away from the VCP too

How about this?

Still keeping the terrain next to the wall, so you can't see underneath due the LODs, but a trench next to it.

yes that would most likley work, but unless duck whats to put it in i dout we will see it in basrah as we generally want to move the fight away from VCP and work on other maps...

Or just make the VCP just like it was in 0.5 so that we will get the fight inside the city and not around the vcp.
Oooh and also remove the flag from it so there is no reason to fight around that point.

However, the idea of the trench would be to improve the defendability of the VCP. This would allow one small squad to possibly defend it alone, and mean that a sustained insurgent attack on VCP would be suicidal ticket-wise.
In this way, less British would defend the VCP, and less insurgents would attack.
Of course, incentives like good strategy only count when the players involved are not smacktarded...
But how are you thinking the focus can be moved into the city otherwise? Would the current mechanics of the VCP as a cappable base change?

if the trenches dont work, y not put a ring of barbed wire around the wall (quite close to the wall, on ground level) so that if u try and jump on the wall, u would end up catching on the barbed wire
even just by looking at it the insurgents wouldnt want to jump on the wall
but i would still prefer Outlawz idea
